POSITION TITLE: Principal - Fannin Elementary School

 

EXEMPTION STATUS: Exempt

 

REPORTS TO: Executive Director/Chief of School Leadership

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  11 months, 2025-2026 school year

 

Primary Purpose

Direct and manage the instructional program and supervise operations at the campus level.  Provide leadership to ensure high standards of instructional service.  Direct the implementation of district policies and instructional programs and manage the operation of all campus activities.

 

Qualifications

 

Education/Certification

Master’s degree in educational administration

Principal certification or other appropriate Texas certificate

Certified instructional supervisor and appraiser in Texas Teacher Evaluation & Support System (TTESS)

 

Special Knowledge/Skills

Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction

Ability to evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness

Ability to manage budget and personnel

Ability to coordinate campus functions

Ability to implement policy and procedures and interpret data

Strong communication (verbal and written), organizational, public relations, and interpersonal skills

 

Experience

Five years’ experience as a classroom teacher

Three years’ experience in a supervisory position

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties

 

Instructional and Program Management

  • Monitor instruction to insure that program activities are related to program outcomes and use these findings for corrective action and improvement, as well as for recognition of success.
  • Analyze and disaggregate data to assist in meeting the academic needs of students.
  • Monitor the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS)/Student Expectation (SE) as set forth by the Texas Education Agency and as taught in accordance with TEA guidelines, board policy and administrative regulations.
  • Work with staff to plan, implement, and evaluate the district curriculum on a systematic basis; include students and community representatives when appropriate.
  • Monitor curriculum delivery utilizing walk-throughs and coaching/mentoring procedures.
  • Provide for two-way communication with superintendent, staff, students, parents, and community.
  • Lead a collaborative process to develop campus performance objectives involving staff, parents, and community members.
  • Develop, maintain, and use appropriate information systems and records necessary for attainment of campus performance objectives addressing each academic excellence indicator.
  • Assure students’ success as determined by the state curriculum (TEKS/SE) and assessment (STAAR – State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness).
  • Comply with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations affecting schools.

School Improvement

  • Determine and build a common vision with staff for school improvement; direct planning activities and implement programs in collaboration with staff to insure attainment of school's mission.
  • Use information and insights provided through assessment instruments, the district appraisal process, line supervisors’ evaluative feedback and professional development programs to improve performance.
  • Promote improvement of the performance of students on the campus through activities such as comparing campus disaggregated student performance results to state accountability standards and to prior year performance.
  • Identify, analyze, and apply research findings (e.g., effective school correlates) to facilitate school improvement.

Personnel Management

  • Interview and select new staff and approve all personnel assigned to campus.
  • Define expectations for staff performance regarding instructional strategies, classroom management, and communication with the public.
  • Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences with all staff.
  • Make recommendations relative to personnel placement, transfer, retention, promotion, and dismissal.
  • Confer with subordinates regarding their professional growth and work jointly with them to develop and accomplish improvement goals.

Management of Fiscal, Facilities and Administrative Functions

  • Comply with all policies and procedures; internal controls; and state, local, and federal laws as they pertain to the financial affairs of the district.
  • Promptly report to the immediate supervisor or Superintendent any suspected violations of the code of ethics, such as theft, fraud, or any other dishonest act in the workplace.
  • Act in an ethical and honest manner in all business transactions of the district.
  • Develop budgets based upon documented program needs, estimated enrollment, personnel, and other fiscal needs; implement programs within budget limits; maintain fiscal control; accurately report fiscal information.
  • Manage the use of school facilities; supervise maintenance of facilities to ensure a clean, orderly, and safe campus.
  • Provide instructional resources and materials to support teaching staff in accomplishing instructional goals.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required in a timely manner.

Student Management

  • Work with faculty and encourage student input to develop a student management system that results in positive student behavior and enhances the school climate          
  • Insure that school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable.
  • Conduct conferences with parents, students, and teachers concerning school and student issues.

Professional Growth and Development

  • Develop professional skills appropriate to job assignment.
  • Provide leadership in addressing challenges facing the profession; pursue professional learning activities; and disseminate ideas and information to other professionals.
  • Observe professional ethical standards in accordance with generally accepted community standards and the Texas Education Agency Code of Ethics.

Communication

  • Communicate and promote expectations for high-level performance from staff and students and recognize excellence and achievement.
  • Facilitate effective and timely resolutions of conflicts.
  • Adhere to district organizational chart in communication with all constituents.

School and Community Relations

  • Demonstrate awareness of school and community needs and initiate activities to meet those identified needs.
  • Use appropriate and effective techniques for community and parent involvement.
  • Articulate the school's mission to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and evaluate the performance of assistant principal(s), teachers, counselors, librarian, substitute teachers, professional support staff, and paraprofessional support staff.

  • Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer, peripherals including electronic devices and telephone
  • Posture: Prolonged sitting, standing and walking, occasional kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting
  • Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions, keyboarding, use of mouse, wrist flexion/extension
  • Lifting: Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds without assistance, 30-55 pounds with assistance, and more than 55 pounds with appropriate assistance
  • Environment: Work is performed in an office setting, on campus, indoors, and outdoors; prolonged and irregular hours, occasional districtwide travel, occasional statewide travel
  • Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress, work with frequent interruptions
