Job Description

This 10-week internship program, (June 7, 2027-August 13, 2027), offers a set hourly rate of $35.00 an hour and a potential pathway to full-time opportunities with Fannie Mae.

This position has multiple openings and will be based in our Washington, D.C. (Midtown Center) office.

THE IMPACT YOU WILL MAKE

As an intern on our Treasury & Capital Markets team, you will work alongside market professionals on the Fannie Mae Market Room trading floor and gain hands-on exposure to the mortgage-backed securities (MBS) and broader mortgage-related fixed-income markets.

QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH TRACK

Interns in the Quantitative Research Track will be placed within the Treasury and Capital Markets Analytics group. This track is designed for students interested in applying mathematics, statistics, programming, data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and financial modeling to complex markets, trading, valuation, and risk-management problems.

Examples of assignments may include:

  • Conducting quantitative research and statistical analysis on financial and market data to evaluate hypotheses, identify patterns, and support pricing, trading, risk management, and business decisions
  • Developing reproducible analyses, data visualizations, and research tools using programming languages such as Python, R, or SQL
  • Prototyping, testing, validating, and monitoring valuation, forecasting, pricing, and risk models
  • Applying machine-learning and artificial-intelligence tools responsibly to improve analytical capabilities, automate workflows, and extract insights from large or complex datasets
  • Evaluating model performance, documenting methodologies and assumptions, and communicating findings to technical and nontechnical audiences
  • Collaborating with traders, analysts, modelers, and technology partners to translate market and business questions into analytical solutions

THE EXPERIENCE YOU BRING TO THE TEAM

Minimum Qualifications

  • Authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
  • Academic achievement (preferred GPA of 3.0 or higher)
  • Shows curiosity and adaptability in learning and responsibly applying new technologies, including artificial intelligence, to reimagine how we work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree with an expected graduation date of Spring 2028
  • Pursuing a degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Economics, Finance, Financial Engineering, or another quantitative field
  • Coursework or experience in one or more areas such as probability, statistics, econometrics, time-series analysis, optimization, machine learning, data science, or financial modeling
  • Experience with data analysis and at least one programming language or analytical tool, such as Python, R, SQL, or a comparable technology
  • Ability to explain analytical methods and results clearly to both technical and nontechnical audiences
  • Strong analytical reasoning, attention to detail, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
  • Interest in fixed-income markets, mortgage-backed securities, housing finance, capital markets, or related fields
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and contribute effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced environment

The hiring range for this role is set forth below. Final salaries will generally vary within that range based on factors that include but are not limited to, skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and other relevant qualifications.
