Summary/objective:
The Compliance & Contracts Paralegal position is responsible for supporting the administration, management, and documentation of legal, compliance, and risk management projects under the direction of the general counsel and compliance officer. This position encompasses the provision of legal services, reviewing and proofreading documents, coordinating multiple aspects of legal, compliance, and risk management projects, and understanding and overseeing deadlines. This position will receive and prepare confidential documents, and, thus, requires a commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, attention to detail, organization, and critical thinking.
Essential Functions:

Under the direction of, and collaboration with, FamilyCare’s General Counsel and Compliance Officer, provide the following services:
- Legal Support
- Oversee the contract intake email and intake process and coordinate signature collection.
- Maintain FamilyCare’s contract management system, including, but not limited to, uploading contracts, contract data, and maintaining user profiles.
- Support implementation of the contract management system implementation, including, but not limited to, training new and current users.
- Draft and revise contracts based on pre-approved templates and standards.
- Gather information responsive to subpoenas, discovery requests, and other legal requests as needed.
- Perform research and analysis as needed.
- Provide reports and updates on changes in law and regulations
- Compliance Support
- Support the development of compliance frameworks, policies, and procedures.
- Conduct compliance assessments at the direction of the General Counsel and Compliance Officer and assist in implementing correct actions.
- Manage documentation for compliance audits and reviews.
- Support implementation of the policy repository system, including, but not limited to, training new and current users.
- Risk Management Support
- Maintain the risk management program calendar.
- Schedule, prepare, and maintain documentation for risk management committee meetings, including, but not limited to, drafting and maintaining meeting minutes.
- Work closely with risk management committee members to follow up and complete action items.
- Regularly draft and internally publish risk management information.
- Support the development and execution of enterprise and department-specific risk assessments.
- Maintain FamilyCare’s incident reporting system, including, but not limited to, supporting user profiles within the system and monitoring incident resolution.
- Support the development and delivery of educational risk management and compliance training programs.
- Support the General Counsel and Compliance Officer in investigating, following up, and reporting all privacy-related issues.
- General Departmental Support
- Proofread documents, including, but not limited to, policies, contracts, and reports
- Maintain General Counsel’s task list and schedule
- Track departmental training participation and documentation
- Recommend and oversee implementation of technology solutions
- Other duties and special projects as assigned.
Competencies:
- Experience working independently and supporting senior level roles.
- Strong, clear, and thorough written and oral communication skills.
- Organized with the ability to handle a high volume of work and multiple deadlines.
- Regular exercise of advanced judgement as to the method and manner of performing tasks
- High attention to detail with detail-oriented issue-identification skills.
- Experience with spreadsheets, document formatting, and proficiency in Microsoft Suite and Adobe applications.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
No direct reports.
Work Environment:
FamilyCare Administrative Office (moderate travel required to other FamilyCare sites as needed.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
This is an hourly, non-exempt position, with an expected 40-hour work week schedule.
Travel Required:
Some travel required to FamilyCare’s sites located in Putnam, Kanawha, Cabell, and Boone counties.
Qualifications:
- Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree; a Paralegal certificate from an accredited organization; and two years administrative experience.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree; two years’ experience with healthcare-related laws and regulations such as HIPAA; two years’ experience in healthcare compliance and/or risk management; two years’ experience drafting legal documents and policies.
