Position Summary: The Hive Teen Engagement Staff are responsible for overseeing the teen room, ensuring a safe and respectful environment where teens can engage positively. They serve as mentors, providing guidance and support to teens during their visits. Additionally, they lead weekly clubs that foster social skills, creativity, and personal development. The staff also play a key role in organizing and supporting events related to teen programming, promoting engagement and community building. By doing so, they help create a vibrant and inclusive space for teens to thrive in the Hive Room.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Work closely with Multi-Gen Teen Program Coordinator to ensure youth are engaged and accounted for during events and activities, paying special attention to transition times and at the beginning and end of program.
- Ensure all participants are within sight and sound of YMCA leaders.
- Create an inclusive space for all teens to thrive in the Hive Room.
CURRICULUM PLANNING:
- Must have basic understanding or youth development.
- Teach youth self-advocacy skills and provide opportunities for independence.
- Lead weekly and monthly club and Hive activities; play a key role in organizing and supporting events related to teen programming, promote engagement and community building.
HEALTH AND SAFETY:
- Must know where all youth enrolled in the program are at all times.
- Care properly for program equipment and check daily for safety.
- Equipment will be organized, stored safely and easily accessible to children and staff.
- Indoor and outdoor space is monitored daily for health and safety concerns.
- Health and safety concerns are to be reported immediately.
- Youth are in line-of-sight, and in close proximity. Anticipate where you need to be and what you need to do to prevent problems/issues.
- Follow YMCA Safety Protocol.
BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT:
- Serve as mentor, guidance, and support to all teen participants that enter in the Hive or any teen programming activities.
- Must understand the difference between discipline and punishment.
- Establish supportive relationships with children and implement developmentally appropriate techniques of behavior and group management.
- Use positive verbal and non-verbal communication with children to build trusting and stable relationships.
- Set and consistently communicate limits for acceptable behavior with logical, relevant and immediate consequences.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
- At least 18 years of age.
- Obtain hands-on Pediatric First Aid & CPR Certification
- Food Handler’s Card
PHYSICALLY/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be physically capable of always observing and listening for stressful situations.
- Must be physically capable of lifting 40 pounds.
- Must be able to quickly reach a person and/or situation to prevent harm.
