QUALIFICATIONS/ABILITIES:
- ABO Certification preferred.
- Minimum 3 years’ Optical Experience preferred, but we are willing to provide training for the right candidate.
- Experience with both contact lenses and glasses.
- Ability to operate manual and auto lensometer.
- A high school diploma or equivalent in relevant work experience is required.
- Electronic Health Record knowledge a plus.
- Experience in a professional business environment preferred.
- Proven excellent customer service skills are a must.
- Proficiency with computers and Microsoft programs. Knowledge of Compulink is a plus.
- Ability to use computer and phone effectively.
- Exhibit both an aptitude and desire to continue learning new things.
- Exhibit a true team player attitude: personable, professional, flexible, with a high level of integrity.
- Proven effective organizational skills.
- Ability to manage time through multi tasking; must work well under pressure and easily adapt to change.

RESPONSIBILITIES – HOW THIS POSITION SUPPORTS THE VISON include the following, but are not limited to: .
- Interpretation of prescriptions written by ophthalmologists and optometrists
- Assist patients in all aspects of ordering eyewear, providing education on quality choices, lens selections, and frame styling to fit their prescription and lifestyle.
- Accurately enter and place orders, monitor and track all orders, as well as verify and inspect incoming orders.
- Create work orders for lab technicians to ensure delivery of the proper lenses.
- Adjust eyeglasses to ensure a proper fit; troubleshoot lens and frame issues.
- Repair frames as needed.
- Educate clients on proper eyeglass care.
- Enter frames into inventory, maintain inventory, and keep the optical tidy.
- Process all eyeglass orders including VSP, Eyemed, and Medicaid.
- Educate new contact lens wearers on insertion and removal; specialty lens knowledge helpful but not required.
- Assist with preliminary and ancillary testing such as OPTOS, OCT, Visual Fields, Topography, etc.
- Answer phones and route calls to appropriate staff.
- Greet patients warmly and ensure their comfort; check patients in and out, collect payments, and assist with contact lens orders.
- Ensure reception area is tidy.
- Coordinate mail and parcel flow in and out of the office.
- Assist with and coordinate office activities.
- Prepare charts for upcoming appointments; gather insurance and personal information.
- Schedule routine, follow up, and emergent/triage appointments.
- Send emails and faxes as needed.
- Perform basic bookkeeping, filing, and clerical duties.
- Take and relay messages
- Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPAA Regulations
- Assist with answering the telephone, appointment scheduling, checking patients in and out, and collecting monies as needed.
- Attend team meetings to stay informed and participate in continued trainings.
