Duties
- Assist veterinarians with animal examinations, treatments, and procedures, ensuring proper restraint and handling techniques.
- Prepare animals for surgery, including animal catheterization, aseptic technique, and monitoring anesthesia during procedures.
- Perform laboratory tests such as blood draws, sample processing, and diagnostic imaging like X-ray to aid in accurate diagnosis.
- Maintain detailed medical records, update patient files, and document treatments following veterinary terminology standards.
- Support pet care activities including grooming, feeding, pet grooming, and ensuring animal husbandry practices are followed.
- Manage kennel areas by cleaning, feeding, and monitoring animals' health status; handle dog training and animal behavior assessments.
- Assist with dental procedures by understanding dental terminology and supporting dental cleanings or treatments.
- Provide animal restraint during examinations or procedures using appropriate techniques for different species including equine experience when applicable.
Skills
- Proven kennel experience combined with animal handling skills across various species such as dogs and horses.
- Strong knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal physiology, anatomy, and pet care best practices.
- Hands-on veterinary technician experience with skills in laboratory work, X-ray operation, and aseptic techniques.
- Ability to perform animal catheterization and manage complex animal restraint situations confidently.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members and educate pet owners on animal care needs.
- Familiarity with dental terminology and procedures related to pet dentistry.
- Open to animal acupuncture and assisting with the procedure
- Experience in veterinary critical care environments is highly desirable to handle emergency situations efficiently.
