Description: The Certified Peer Support Specialist provides peer support to the clients engaged in agency programming. They provide peer services to clients with behavioral health disorders to support engagement with services, as well as addressing Social Determinants of Health. They will demonstrate the ability to engage individuals in conversations around holistic recovery goals, including engagement with medical and behavioral health services. With the direction of their supervisor, the peer will function as a role model; exhibiting competency in personal recovery and use of coping skills; serve as a client advocate, providing client information and peer support for clients in the community, and act as an active member of the Client’s treatment plan. The peer performs a wide range of tasks to assist of all ages in regaining independence within the community.
Responsibilities:
. Serve as an active member of the client’s care team, including participation in team meetings and treatment planning meetings as appropriate.
· Assist clients in increasing their overall functioning through added support and coping skills.
· Assist clients in identifying their strengths and barriers.
· Assist clients in the development of a recovery plan, including crisis planning.
· Serve as a role model for clients by selectively sharing their own recovery process and teaching effective coping techniques and self-help strategies.
· Provide interventions, resources, and service collaboration for individual clients and for client groups as extension of program services.
· Maintain accurate, thorough records on all assigned cases and use documentation to assist clients in evaluating progress.
· Maintain accurate documentation as required.
· Provide advocacy services on behalf of clients.
·Provide follow-up care and make referrals to community service providers as appropriate.
· Other assignments and tasks may be added at the discretion of the supervisor.

Requirements: Applicants must have a NYS OMH Peer Certification and are expected to self-identify as someone who has received current or past mental health services and demonstrated a commitment to their recovery. They must have a high school diploma or GED. They must have reliable transportation.
The ideal candidate will work well with others, be committed to their own recovery, be willing to share some limited experiences of their own, be strength-based, and be empowering to others. In addition, they will possess good written and oral communication skills and will be organized, with ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines concurrently; computer proficient with the ability to learn how to use multiple client databases and health interfaces; friendly and compassionate with previous and demonstrated experience providing excellent client services or care.
