Make a real difference for children and build a life you'll love in Fayetteville

Family Services of America (FSA) is looking for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant who wants their clinical expertise to go further than a busy exam room allows. In this role, you oversee and safeguard the health and well-being of children in our long-term foster care program the kind of work that sends you home knowing a child is safer, healthier, and cared for because of you.

This is not a high-volume clinical production job. It is a health-oversight leadership role with a flexible schedule, built for an experienced practitioner who wants meaningful work, real autonomy, and time for a life outside of work.

Why Fayetteville, North Carolina

Fayetteville is one of the most affordable and welcoming places to live in the Carolinas a diverse, family-friendly military community (home to Fort Bragg/Fort Liberty) with a low cost of living, no long commutes, and your paycheck going further than it would in most metro areas. You're about two hours from the beach, two hours from the Raleigh–Durham Research Triangle, and a short drive from the Blue Ridge Mountains. It's a place where you can own a home, put down roots, and still have a career that matters. Relocating candidates are warmly encouraged to apply.

About the role

The Lead Medical Coordinator provides medical and clinical oversight for the health services children receive in FSA's long-term foster care program. Working within your own professional license and scope of practice, you verify and oversee the care that clinicians and providers deliver to the children we serve, coordinate their health needs across the care team, and make sure nothing falls through the cracks.

Important: FSA is not a licensed medical facility, and this role does not involve invasive procedures, surgical care, suturing, or operating a medical office. Your work is oversight, assessment, coordination, and medication management — using your clinical judgment to keep children healthy and ensure quality care, not running a clinic.

What you will do

- Provide medical and clinical oversight to the clinicians and providers delivering treatment to children in foster care, verifying care is appropriate, timely, and high quality.

- Oversee and coordinate each child's health services medical, dental, mental health, and preventive care from intake through transition, ensuring timely appointments and follow-through.

- Conduct non-invasive preventive health and wellness assessments for children, and coordinate referrals to appropriate specialists for any care beyond the program's scope. (No invasive or forensic procedures are performed on-site.)

- Provide medication management for children and families served reviewing, monitoring, and coordinating medications with prescribing providers and the clinical team, within your license.

- Supervise and support the Medical Coordinator(s), guiding day-to-day health coordination and appointment management.

- Develop and maintain clear health policies and procedures — confidential health records, triage, routine health monitoring, and care coordination.

- Serve as the point of connection with community providers, specialists, and the care team so each child's health picture stays complete and current.

- Maintain accurate, confidential health records consistent with HIPAA and applicable standards.

What you bring

- Active Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) license in North Carolina (or eligibility to obtain one before start — relocation and licensure support available).

- Experience in pediatric, adolescent, family, or public health, and comfort coordinating care across a team.

- A heart for children and families, and the judgment to oversee care rather than simply deliver it.

- Strong organization, communication, and recordkeeping skills.

- Bilingual English/Spanish is strongly preferred and comes with additional compensation — many of the children and families we serve speak Spanish, and your language skills directly improve their care.

What makes this role attractive

- Flexible schedule — designed around oversight and quality, not back-to-back patient volume.

- Mission that matters — your work directly protects and improves the lives of children in care.

- Autonomy and leadership — you set the standard for health oversight and lead the coordination team.

- Affordable, livable location — Fayetteville offers a quality of life your salary can actually support.

- Bilingual pay incentive for English/Spanish speakers.

- Relocation and NC licensure support for the right candidate.

Compensation and benefits

Salary: $93,500 – $110,000 annually, commensurate with experience, plus a bilingual (English/Spanish) compensation incentive. Benefits include group health, dental, and vision insurance; employer-paid basic life insurance (coverage begins after the eligibility period); paid time off and paid federal holidays; professional development; mileage reimbursement for approved work-related travel.

How to apply

Submit your resume and a brief cover letter telling us why this kind of work and this kind of life appeals to you. If you're relocating or have questions about licensure, say so; we're happy to help.
