Position Summary: Responsible for the overall delivery of psychiatric services to FSRI’s Home Division, including but not limited to South County Academy and Residential Interventions. Responsible for providing culturally competent psychiatric evaluation; safety assessment; medication evaluation and on-going medication management and monitoring. Participates as a key member of an interdisciplinary team in planning, developing, organizing, and directing clinical services at South County Academy. Ensures that clinical services meet applicable community standards of care and are compliant with State and Federal laws and rules and other regulatory requirements. Coordinates and supervises the medical practice of nursing staff at South County Academy and FSRI Residential Intervention Programs. Responsible for providing team and utilization management consultation; individual group and family treatment, and staff training. Provides critical leadership to South County Academy, ensuring medical, clinical, and programmatic services are therapeutic, appropriate, and support positive clinical outcomes. Works in collaboration with FSRI’s medical team.

Specific Duties/ Responsibilties:

  • Perform initial psychiatric evaluation at South County Academy and at community sites
  • Medication management, including clinical monitoring for adverse effects of medications
  • Supervise nursing staff
  • Provide case consultation to clinical team across the Home Division
  • Work with program and Quality Management staff to ensure compliance of behavioral health services with all state and federal regulations
  • Provide education about medication to clients and family members
  • Assign level of risk to all clients
  • Collaborate with assigned treatment team
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and utilization reviews to ensure client care
  • Provide staff training and professional development
  • Work as part of a team to support the overall functioning of the programs and ensure that all Policies and Procedures are followed
  • Become trained, competent and able to perform emergency de-escalation and support strategies when applicable
  • Teach client/family self-advocacy skills
  • Coordination of care with primary care physician
  • Build and maintain positive, working relationships with community organizations and service providers
  • Maintain confidentiality of client/family
  • Provide sensitivity to client/family cultural, ethnic, racial and socioeconomic issues and diversity
  • Serve as a positive role model to client and colleagues
  • Complete all professional and administrative documentation and forms in accordance with agency standards and within established guidelines and timeframes
  • Maintains compliance with FSRI policies, including those relating to HIPAA, CCBHC and all state and federal agencies, including DCYF
  • Proficient in using an electronic health record as well as project-specific software
  • Participates in all meetings as required by the team, supervisors and that are necessary for the role both internally and externally
  • Attend and participate in all required program and agency trainings
  • Approaches all work through a trauma and diversity and inclusion lens
  • Provide on-call coverage/support in conjunction with other members of the medication management team.
  • Performs additional responsibilities consistent with Agency needs, defined in consultation with supervisor(s)


Qualifications:

  • Current valid license to practice in Rhode Island
  • Current DEA Certificate & Number
  • Must be Board certified or have met the training requirements for Board eligibility in the Specialty or Specialties in Child Psychiatry
  • Experience working with children and adults from diverse social, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
  • Experience providing psychiatric treatment to youth and adults with mental health and/or substance use disorders
  • Skilled in operating various medical record software and hardware, word-processing, and database software programs
  • Spanish Speaking preferred and is compensated
  • Flexible schedule with some evenings
  • Excellent multitasking and communication skills a must
  • Ability to work independently and part of a team
  • Bilingual/ASL skills are compensated by an additional 6%, above base pay.
  • Multilingual skills are compensated by an additional 8%, above base pay.



Physical Requirements: This position requires community visits, employees in this position must have the ability to:

  • Current driver’s license, reliable transportation, registration and auto insurance
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Travel to and from clients’ residence, community locations and office site, which could include using walkways, stairs and/or elevators
  • Ability to lift up to 20lbs
  • Must be able to work remotely and in person adhering to PHI requirements
