What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Education, South County Academy position at FAMILY SERVICE OF RHODE ISLAND INC?

Position Summary: The Director of Education works collaboratively with the management team to ensure the safety, stability and wellbeing of students in our care that have been placed through the Department of Children, Youth and Families. Responsible for the development, implementation, and supervision of the educational curriculum at South County Academy. Develops and maintains the school’s policy and procedures manuals, ensures the school’s accreditation and licensure, and encapsulates the behavioral health clinical support within the classroom settings. Works collaboratively with the Rhode Island Department of Education to ensure quality set of courses and materials that meet or exceed RIDE Standards and maintain FSRI’s mission of Equity Advancement and Inclusion and respects a youth’s individual learning styles.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree and three to five years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Previous experience developing programming in the special education residential setting a plus.
- Experience with children with behavioral/psychiatric challenges
- Supervisory experience
- Skilled in operating various medical record software and hardware, word-processing, and database software programs
- Spanish Speaking preferred and is compensated
- Flexible schedule with some evenings
- Excellent multitasking and communication skills a must
- Ability to work independently and part of a team
Physical Requirements: This position requires community visits, employees in this position must have the ability to:
- Current driver’s license, reliable transportation, registration and auto insurance
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Travel to and from community locations and office site, which could include using walkways, stairs and/or elevators
- Ability to lift up to 20lbs
- Provide emergency coverage; ratio to the programs as needed.
- Must be able to work remotely and in person adhering to PHI requirements
- Ability to be trained in and implement de-escalation techniques utilizing Handle with Care when necessary.
