Bilingual Spanish/English
- Attend breastfeeding training classes to become a peer counselor, such as Loving Support for Peer Counselors.
- Receive a caseload of WIC mothers and make routine periodic contact.
- Give basic breastfeeding information and support to new mothers.
- Help mothers prevent and handle common breastfeeding problems.
- Counsel WIC pregnant and breastfeeding mothers by telephone, home visits, and/or hospital visits.
- Is available outside the WIC clinic and the usual 8:00 am to 5:00 pm working schedule to new mothers who are having breastfeeding problems.
- Keep information strictly confidential.
- Attend and assist with prenatal classes and breastfeeding support groups.
- Attend monthly staff meetings and breastfeeding conferences/workshops as appropriate.
- Coordinate breastfeeding promotion activities in WIC and in the community.
- May assist WIC staff in promoting breastfeeding peer counseling through special projects, events, and duties as assigned.
- Keep accurate records of all contacts made with WIC mothers.
- Refer mothers, according to clinic-established protocols.
