35 hours per week
Weekday and Weekend afternoon-evenings.
SUMMARY:
The Youth Development Specialist leads educational, recreational, and enrichment programs for children and family members residing in emergency housing. The Youth Development Specialist offers guidance and support to families, works to foster a positive, strength-based environment, provides related safety monitoring, and supervises children as they return home from school each afternoon.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The Youth Development Specialist will provide direct interaction and support to children and families residing in emergency housing to build upon strengths and resources
- Prepare room for activities and programs and clean-up program materials.
- Develop, plan, and implement programs and events that meet the developmental, intellectual, physical, social-emotional, and recreational needs of children of all ages.
- Develop written lesson plans correlating to programs and activities offered.
- Provide enrichment and work towards building good character and positive self-esteem in clients.
- Practice excellent supervision and monitoring skills pertaining to the safety of children.
- The Youth Development Specialist will assume bus duties to ensure all children returning from school and camp are adequately supervised.
- Contribute to a monthly department activities calendar that ensures a balance of programs for children of all ages, gender, and cultural backgrounds.
- Ensure play areas and activity centers are cleaned, well maintained and safe at all times.
- Maintain and instruct children in keeping good hygiene.
- The Youth Development Specialist will adhere to identified schedules and routines.
- Maintain meticulous record keeping and maintain current, accurate, and confidential client records.
- Work closely with program staff to implement and maintain program performance standards.
- Set and observe appropriate boundaries with clients; observe client confidentiality and HIPPA protocols.
- The Youth Development Specialist will attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
- This position is essential to the safe and continuous operation of the program. Essential employees are expected to report to work during inclement weather and other relevant emergency situations to ensure uninterrupted care and support for clients.

QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
At least two years of childcare experience required.
Ability to work with adults and children of all ages and demonstrate knowledge of and sensitivity to the needs and interests of underserved communities required.
Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills required.
Strong organizational and time management skills required.
Must have ability to work independently and as part of multi-disciplinary team.
Must maintain a professional manner and appearance and can prioritize workload while remaining flexible.
Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office required.
Spanish language fluency preferred.
Valid, clean New York State Driver’s License required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires sitting and standing for extended periods of time, as well as moderate lifting up to 10-15 pounds. Must be able to go up and down stairs.
