General Description
The Health Insurance Navigator provides hands-on assistance to individuals and families in understanding health insurance options, completing applications, and enrolling in plans. This role ensures consumers receive accurate, culturally sensitive guidance to access affordable coverage through the state-based exchange in New Jersey, GetCoveredNJ.
Key Responsibilities
Bachelor’s degree in social work, public health, human services, or related field OR 3 years of relevant experience.
Completion of required Navigator training and certification.
Knowledge of public health insurance programs (Medicaid, Medicare, ACA Marketplace) and related subsidies.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to explain complex information clearly.
Ability to work independently and travel within designated counties; valid driver’s license required.
Preferred: Fluency in Spanish or other languages; experience with nonprofit or community-based organizations.
Additional Details
Part-time position; flexible schedule including evenings/weekends for community events. Must comply with continuing education and re-certification requirements. This role is a temporary assignment designed to support health insurance navigation during the open enrollment period. The position is anticipated to last approximately 12 weeks with no guarantee of continuation beyond January 31, 2026.
Salary: $25 per hour
Hours: 10-15 hours per week

- Maintain accurate records of client interactions and enrollment outcomes in internal databases.
- Collaborate with community partners and agencies to expand access and overcome barriers to coverage.
