As a Youth Development Leader, you'll have the opportunity to create meaningful and enriching experiences for students. Youth Development Leaders work in a dynamic environment at elementary school sites, including indoor classrooms and outdoor schoolyards. The role involves frequent standing, walking, and active supervision and participation in physical activities such as recreational sports and games. The environment can be fast-paced and loud. Youth Development Leaders are on the front line of work, supporting scholars in their social-emotional learning, as well as helping with homework, enrichment activities, learning new skills, having fun, and being safe after school!
YDL Responsibilities
- Greet and welcome scholars to the program at the end of their school day
- Organize and lead activities, including homework help, recreation games, arts and crafts, and educational projects.
- Indoor and Outdoor enrichment activities.
- Maintain a secure environment by following safety protocols, monitoring student behavior, and managing group dynamics.
· Oversee the safety and well-being of students during after-school activities.
· Encourage participation and enthusiasm while adapting activities to meet students’ diverse needs and interests.
To qualify for this position, you will need:
· Communicate professionally and respectfully with staff, scholars, community partners, and parents.
· Participate in required staff meetings and training sessions to maintain professional development and program effectiveness.
· Associate's degree or higher, or High School diploma/equivalent, plus any of the following:
· Completed 48 college units verified by transcript
· Passed District Instructional Aide Exam (able to complete upon hire)
· TB Test clearance (information on how to maintain can be provided)
· Fingerprint background check clearance
· Must be punctual and reliable
· Must possess strong classroom and behavioral management skills
· Must be able to work independently and as part of a team
· Complete weekly lesson plans for scholars
· Available Monday-Friday during after school program hours; shifts vary 1:00 pm-6:00pm (Wednesdays are short school days)
