Job Title: Family Advocate

Location: Rochester, MN
Compensation: $23/hour base rate, $4/hour overnight shift differential

Family Promise Rochester is the leading nonprofit organization addressing the issue of children and families experiencing homelessness in Olmsted County. Family Promise Rochester provides a holistic approach geared toward keeping families in their homes, providing shelter at our Promise House when necessary, and supporting families on their way back to stable housing. Our solution involves a community-based response that can be tailored to the unique needs of each family our organization walks alongside.
Position Description:
The Family Advocate provides direct services to families experiencing homelessness and residing at the Promise House - our family shelter. The ideal candidate will have exceptional organization skills and the ability to communicate in a clear and trauma-informed, respectful manner. The Family Advocate will ensure the building operates in accordance with established policies and procedures so that the families experience safe and secure housing in a manner that affirms their human dignity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Check-in with guests to determine needs and provide support.
- Routinely conduct walkthroughs on premises, including parking lot and stairwells to ensure building safety and security.
- Conduct routine cleaning tasks of common areas to maintain order, assists in keeping all assigned areas clean and free of spills, trash and safety hazards.
- Respond immediately and professionally to any security/safety emergency or disturbance within or immediately outside the facility.
- Monitor and review security camera footage.
- Complete all agency logs and incident reports in a timely manner.
- Ensure that the end of shift summary is recorded.
- Plan and implement activities for the guest families, both on-site as well as in the community, in order to foster a sense of community, skill build, and decrease isolation amongst residents.
- Refer guests to appropriate community resources, and arrange volunteer transportation or other roles as needed.
- Maintain guest files and program records, develop reports as required.
- Comply with HIPAA and Data Privacy Practices.
- Ensure residents are complying with program policies and procedures.
- Delivers services with safety, respect and effectiveness.
Qualifications
- Prior work with families and/or children in a social service setting.
- High School diploma or GED.
- People-oriented — supportive and fairness-focused
- Must be at least 18 years of age and pass a background check.
- Must have a good sense of personal and professional boundaries.
- Ability to de-escalate situations and build trust with guests.
- Serve our guests in a non-judgmental manner that affirms their human dignity.
- Must be capable of empathetic and professional relationship building while advocating for diverse client needs and interests.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. (e.g., boxes, bins) and perform light physical tasks related to family move-ins and move-outs.

Salary : $4 - $23
