Family Promise of Hendricks County works to transform the lives of those experiencing homelessness and poverty in Hendricks County by providing emergency and permanent housing, stability services and homelessness prevention, with the goal of achieving sustainable independence. Summary
The Family Advocate at Family Promise of Hendricks County is a key member of the Stability Builders Network. This role focuses on providing comprehensive support to families and individuals facing eviction, financial instability, and other crises. The Family Advocate works directly with clients to prevent eviction, provide rent and utility assistance, and respond to initial crisis calls, ensuring families and individuals receive the support they need to achieve stability.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Eviction Prevention:
- Assist clients in navigating the eviction process, including representation in court.
- Collaborate with landlords, legal services, and community resources to negotiate and resolve eviction cases.
- Educate clients on tenant rights and responsibilities.
Financial Assistance:
- Assess and determine eligibility for rent and utility assistance programs.
- Process applications for financial aid, ensuring timely and accurate distribution of funds.
- Maintain accurate records of assistance provided and ensure compliance with funding guidelines.
Crisis Response:
- Respond to initial crisis calls, providing immediate support and resources to families in need.
- Conduct thorough assessments to understand the scope of the client's crisis and develop a response plan.
- Connect clients with appropriate community resources and support services.
Client Support and Advocacy:
- Build and maintain positive relationships with clients, providing ongoing support and advocacy.
- Develop individualized service plans to address clients' needs and monitor progress.
- Advocate for clients within the community, ensuring they receive the necessary resources and support.
Collaboration and Networking:
- Work closely with other Family Promise staff and community partners to coordinate services and resources for clients.
- Attend and participate in community meetings, workshops, and events related to eviction prevention and family stability.
- Build and maintain a network of resources to support clients' needs.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date client files, including case notes, service plans, and assistance records.
- Prepare regular reports on program activities, outcomes, and client progress.
- Ensure confidentiality and compliance with all relevant regulations and policies.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, or a related field preferred.
- Experience in case management, advocacy, or a related role preferred.
- Knowledge of eviction prevention, tenant rights, and community resources is highly desirable.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Compassionate and empathetic approach to working with diverse populations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and database management.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
