Job Purpose 

Family Promise of Brevard is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to preventing and ending homelessness for families with children. Our mission is to leverage the strengths of our community to empower and elevate families facing homelessness. We work to prevent homelessness through proactive case management and eviction prevention or move-in assistance. When families do face homelessness, we provide short-term shelter, meals, and supportive services to guide them through this challenging period. Additionally, we offer ongoing case management to ensure long-term stability and help families build a secure future in their homes. The Director of Development cultivates philanthropic and public support for the organization. The Director develops and implements an integrated strategy across fund development, communications, and volunteer engagement to ensure the organization has the resources it needs to fulfill its mission and grow to serve more families. The Director also works to increase public awareness of the organization and the issue of family homelessness, telling the story of the organization and families we serve. This position reports to the Executive Director. 

 

Essential Job Functions 

Fund Development (50%) 

  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors, Development Committee, and Executive Director to create a fund development plan which increases revenues to support the strategic direction of the organization. 
  • Manage and implement fund development plans in accordance with ethical fundraising principles. 
  • Manage and evaluate all fundraising activities to ensure that the fundraising goals are being achieved. 
  • Monitor trends in the community or region and adapt fundraising strategies as necessary. 
  • Develop and manage timelines for various fundraising activities to ensure strategic plans and critical fundraising processes are carried out in a timely manner. 
  • Work collaboratively with the development committee to ensure adherence to policies and procedures which reflect ethical fundraising practices. 
  • Responsible for the planning and execution of special fundraising events as specified in the fund development plan to generate funds for the organization. 
  • Identify and develop corporate, community and individual prospects for the organization's fundraising priorities. 
  • Manage donor mailing list and database which respects the privacy and confidentiality of donor information. 
  • Implement in-kind policies and procedures for sponsors, volunteers, and donations and make decisions regarding the issuing of receipts. 

 

Community Engagement (25%) 

  • Cultivate a culture of philanthropy by educating and inspiring staff and stakeholders about the importance and impact of charitable giving. 
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive annual communication plan to promote the organization to its donors and maximize public awareness of the fundraising activities of the organization. 
  • Coordinate with staff, vendors, contracted support, and/or interns to produce the design, printing and distribution of marketing and communication materials for development efforts and when appropriate, create internally. 
  • Manage and update website, social media, and other digital marketing communications 
  • Build relationships with community stakeholders to advance the mission and fundraising goals of the organization. 
  • Establish and implement volunteer management practices to include tracking volunteer information and hours, engaging and managing volunteers, and reporting in-kind resources. 

 

Grants and Administration (25%) 

  • Oversee, supervise, or directly participate in the preparation and submission of all grant applications, as well as ensuring reporting requirements are met for all awarded grants. 
  • Manage annual grant calendar to ensure timeliness and accuracy of submissions. 
  • Work collaboratively and proactively with finance and programs around ensuring deliverables and timelines are achievable. 
  • Research new grant opportunities, cultivating the relationships needed to successfully expand our reach with grantors. 
  • Update profiles in required platforms for grant submissions and to build grantor trust, like Central Florida Foundation and Charity Navigator. 

 

Experience & Qualifications 

  • 5 to 7 years of fundraising experience. 
  • Experience in fundraising management and budgeting 
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local legislation affecting charities 
  • Experience in special events planning and project management 
  • Proficiency in the use of computer for: 
  • Customer relationship management software (Bloomerang) 
  • Analytics 
  • Website (WIX) 
  • Microsoft Office 365 
  • Outlook 
  • Microsoft Teams 
  • Canva 
  • Social media platforms 

 

Education  

  • Bachelor’s Degree - Preferably in Marketing or Business Development 
  • Certificate in Fundraising Management (preferred)  
  • Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) (preferred) 

 

Working Conditions 

  • Working in an office environment or home office 
  • May be required to work evenings and weekends during major campaigns and special events  
  • Ability to safely lift and move objects up to 30 pounds  
  • Reliable transportation is needed 
  • Local traveling up to 15 percent of work week
