What are the responsibilities and job description for the Corporate Counsel - In-House position at Family Office?
We are seeking an in-house Corporate Counsel with reporting responsibility to the General Counsel along with coordinating communication with other senior management. This role will be heavily focused on real estate and real estate finance, but experience in tax, estate planning, employment law, and other in-house legal generalist skills will be beneficial. This role will report to the General Counsel, Chief Legal Officer of a private family office, which includes ~$2B of real estate investments, small businesses and entrepreneurial investments.
Primary Responsibilities
Including, but are not limited to:
- Review, draft, or edit legal documents or contracts.
- Oversee and draft documentation for real estate and finance transactions.
- Assist in general management and handle compliance efforts for corporate entities.
- Prepare and amend operating agreements and joint venture agreements.
- Provide advice regarding estate planning and tax issues.
- Advise on human resources and employment issues.
- Perform necessary legal research.
- Assist in, file and manage litigated matters.
- Strive to maintain Employer’s image and always keep Employer’s long term best interest at heart.
- Perform all other special projects or assignments as requested by supervisors.
Qualifications
- 4-6 years legal experience at a respected law firm in the commercial real estate department or in-house at a real estate company focused on acquisitions, leasing, and compliance.
- Law degree and admitted in good standing with the State Bar of California.
- Maintain the requirements for bar license.
- Experience with estate planning and tax would be beneficial.
- Outstanding communication skills, including written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high activity environment, and able to handle ambiguity, juggle many matters at once and quickly shift from one situation or task to another.
- Ability to effectively collaborate cross-functionally across teams with a positive attitude that no job is too big or too small.
- Ability to work independently and with minimum supervision.
- Demonstrate ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Proficient in the use of AI technology, Microsoft Word, with a basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
