Overview
The Assistant Teacher is responsible for maintaining the health, safety, and quality of education for all children within the center’s care. As well as ensuring that curriculum and classroom activities are properly delivered, and that the needs of the students and the goals of the center are met appropriately.
Duties
- Maintain the vision for the center.
- Maintain confidentiality in regard to all children, parents/families, staff, interns, volunteers, professional partners, and community members.
- Attend required training offered by FOW, OCFS, and other agencies/businesses.
- Ensure you receive at least 15 hours of required OCFS training per year covering all required topics.
- Be knowledgeable with CACFP, OCFS Day Care Center Regulations, Laws, Policies and Procedures
- Work with Ulster BOCES ECE interns.
- Attend staff meetings on a regular basis.
- Follow all procedures and policies manual.
- Maintain proper cleanliness of center inside and outside at all times.
- Maintain adherence to quality standards in accordance with the vision and with state and local requirements and regulations.
- Adhere to quality standards in accordance with Center guidelines and state and local requirements; implement improvements where needed.
- Be aware of and follow OCFS Child Care Center regulations, definitions and policies
- Follow established educational curriculum; collaborate with staff to develop positive learning activities; manage adherence to state and local regulations.
- Maintain student records in accordance with OCFS regulations.
- Maintain communications with parents of current and prospective students.
- Follow approved menus, as needed.
- Maintain positive relationships with regulatory agencies.
- Follow illness and emergency procedures. Maintain a good working relationship with a Health Care Consultant.
- Maintain a good working relationship and communicate effectively with OCFS, OCFS Reginal Offices, Child Care Assistance Program, Quality Stars NY, NYS Pyramid, FOW programs and other community/state/regional partners.
- Ability to work well with others (staff, children, and parents) and to foster a team environment.
Experience
- High School Diploma or its equivalent;
- Able to lift 50lbs
- Strong oral and written communications skills;
- Have at least basic technology skills.
- Must have a reliable and insured vehicle for transportation
- Infant/child CPR and First Aid certification.
- Available for on-call needs for second shift of care
- Have a strong understanding of child development.
- Have strong finance and budgeting skills.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Bilingual Spanish preferred
- 1 year of experience working with children less than 13 years of age.
- Must clear full background check.
- Must pass health screening.
