Job Overview
We are seeking a highly organized and professional Medical Receptionist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will serve as the first point of contact for patients, providing exceptional customer service while managing administrative tasks efficiently. This role requires familiarity with various Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, medical billing, and coding procedures, ensuring smooth clinic operations and compliance with healthcare regulations. Bilingual abilities are a plus to assist a diverse patient population. The Medical Receptionist will play a vital role in maintaining accurate medical records, scheduling appointments, and supporting clinical staff with administrative support.
Duties
- Greet patients and visitors professionally, ensuring excellent patient service and phone etiquette
- Schedule patient appointments using EMR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, Dentrix, or Eaglesoft
- Verify insurance coverage and perform insurance verification processes
- Collect payments and perform medical collections as needed
- Manage patient check-in and check-out procedures efficiently
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation review in compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Handle multi-line phone systems, respond to patient inquiries, and provide clerical support including filing and data entry (10 key typing)
- Assist with intake procedures, including collecting demographic information and updating health information management records
- Support billing processes involving CPT coding, ICD-9/10 coding, and Medicare documentation requirements
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA standards for confidentiality and security of patient information
- Utilize office management software such as Microsoft Office to prepare reports and correspondence
- Support front desk operations, including managing appointment schedules and coordinating care plans with clinical staff
Qualifications
- Prior experience in a medical office setting or clinic environment is highly preferred
- Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, Dentrix, Eaglesoft or similar platforms
- Knowledge of medical billing, CPT coding, ICD coding (ICD-9/10), and insurance verification processes
- Familiarity with health information management standards and HIPAA regulations
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and office management software
- Excellent communication skills with professional phone etiquette; bilingual abilities are advantageous
- Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
- Experience with dental terminology or dental office experience is a plus but not required
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional certification in medical administration or related fields is beneficial
