Position Summary
Family Matterz is seeking compassionate, dependable, and motivated Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to support adults with developmental disabilities in both our Residential and Adult Day Services programs. DSPs empower individuals to build independence, develop life skills, participate in their communities, and live meaningful lives while ensuring their health, safety, dignity, and personal choice.
This position does not require personal hygiene or bathing assistance. Individuals served are expected to complete their own personal care or receive those services through other arrangements.
Essential ResponsibilitiesResidential Services
- Provide supervision and support in a residential setting.
- Encourage independence in daily routines and household responsibilities.
- Assist individuals with:
- Meal planning and simple meal preparation
- Laundry and clothing care
- Light housekeeping and organization
- Budgeting and money management
- Medication reminders (or medication administration if certified)
- Transport individuals safely to appointments, community activities, shopping, and recreational outings.
- Support individuals in making choices and achieving ISP goals.
- Complete required documentation before the end of each shift.
- Monitor for changes in health, behavior, or safety concerns and report them immediately.
- Maintain a clean, safe, welcoming home environment.
- Promote dignity, respect, and individual rights at all times.
Adult Day Services
- Facilitate daily activities that promote independence and personal growth.
- Teach and reinforce life skills including:
- Cooking
- Cleaning
- Laundry
- Money management
- Communication
- Social skills
- Time management
- Assist individuals with vocational readiness and volunteer opportunities.
- Participate in community integration activities including:
- Libraries
- Parks
- Restaurants
- Grocery stores
- Museums
- Local businesses
- Volunteer sites
- Encourage participation while respecting individual choice.
- Assist with classroom-style instruction, group activities, and recreational programming.
- Support individuals during transportation and community outings.
- Complete service documentation and progress notes accurately and timely.
General DSP Responsibilities
- Treat every individual with dignity, respect, and compassion.
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and DODD regulations.
- Follow all Family Matterz policies and procedures.
- Maintain a professional appearance and positive attitude.
- Communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, guardians, and outside agencies.
- Attend required trainings and staff meetings.
- Maintain CPR/First Aid certification (or obtain after hire).
- Report incidents, accidents, or unusual occurrences immediately.
- Demonstrate reliability through punctuality and regular attendance.
- Work as part of a team to provide exceptional supports.
Transportation Responsibilities
- Safely operate company or personal vehicles (when authorized).
- Perform vehicle safety inspections before transporting individuals.
- Secure wheelchairs or adaptive equipment when applicable.
- Ensure all passengers wear seatbelts.
- Maintain a clean vehicle.
- Follow all Family Matterz transportation policies.
Documentation Responsibilities
Employees are expected to complete documentation including:
- Daily service notes
- Community outing documentation
- Progress toward ISP goals
- Incident reports
- Medication documentation (if certified)
- Mileage logs
- Communication logs
Documentation must be completed accurately and submitted before the end of each scheduled shift.
QualificationsPreferred
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
- Ability to pass background checks required by Ohio DODD
- CPR/First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Medication Administration Certification (preferred but not required)
- Experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently walk, stand, bend, lift, and reach.
- Lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Work indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Safely assist individuals during community activities and transportation.

Important Note
Family Matterz Residential & Adult Day Services promotes independence. This DSP position focuses on teaching, coaching, encouraging, and supporting individuals—not doing tasks for them. Personal hygiene assistance (bathing, toileting, dressing, grooming, etc.) is not a required responsibility of this position. Our goal is to empower every individual to live as independently as possible while providing support only where needed.
Pay: From $14.00 per hour
