Duties
- Administer medications accurately following physician orders and facility protocols, including oral, topical, and tube feeding medications.
- Monitor and record vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, respiration rates, and temperature to assess residents’ health status regularly.
- Assist residents with personal care activities including bathing, dressing, grooming, mobility support, and hygiene to promote dignity and independence.
- Provide specialized care for residents with memory impairments or dementia, ensuring safety and comfort through tailored approaches like memory care techniques.
- Maintain detailed medical documentation using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems such as Cerner or similar platforms to ensure accurate record-keeping and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Support residents during activities of daily living (ADLs), including catheter care, wound management, and tube feeding procedures under supervision.
- Collaborate effectively with nursing staff and caregivers to communicate resident needs clearly and ensure seamless continuity of care while adhering to state healthcare regulations.
Qualifications
- Proven experience working in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, hospitals, or home care environments with geriatric or disabled populations.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, anatomy, and medication administration procedures.
- Valid certification from the State Board of Nursing or equivalent licensing authority for Med Techs or Nurse Assistants.
- Hands-on experience with EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like Cerner or EHR systems for accurate documentation of patient information.
- Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations along with a commitment to maintaining resident confidentiality at all times.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely when assisting residents with mobility or transfers; manual handling skills are essential.
- First aid and CPR certification required; additional certifications such as Basic Life Support (BLS) are preferred.
- Familiarity with hospice care practices, Alzheimer’s/dementia/memory care techniques, and working with individuals with developmental disabilities is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication skills for caregiver interactions and resident engagement; compassionate caregiving attitude is essential.
