Job summary:

The Thrift Store Associate directly supports the operation of FIRC’s thrift store. Associates receive, sort, and display donations at the Sol Center Thrift Store retail location. They greet customers and assist with the shopping experience, including performing cashier duties. This role collaborates with internal teams and local partners to support basic needs and comprehensive support services. This position requires in-person work Tuesday–Saturday, including some evenings and holidays.

The person we are looking for will be:

  • Dependable and with outstanding customer service

Primary duties:

· Greet customers warmly and assist them with questions and shopping requests

· Facilitate receiving donations: sort, organize, tidy, and recycle or dispose of donated items

· Stage, price, ticket, and display merchandise to promote sales

· Assist with volunteers and ensure volunteers are prepared to support daily store operations and donation flow

· Operate the front desk and cash register while utilizing Square, Salesforce, and other technology platforms

· Maintain awareness of resale, thrift, consignment, and retail trends to support store operations

· Uphold all cleanliness, safety, and organizational standards

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

· Uphold and promote FIRC’s mission, vision, and values

· Share information about FIRC and its role in the community and connect customers to resources when appropriate

· Maintain knowledge of promotions, policies regarding payment and exchanges, safety and security practices

· Open and close cash register, count money, process vouchers, and run credit card payments

· Watch for and recognize security risks and thefts, and know how to prevent and handle these situations

· Attend and conduct staff and team meetings, quarterly all-staff trainings, and professional development

· All other duties as assigned, job requirements may change

General requirements of the position include:

· High school diploma or GED required

· Experience in retail required

· Effectively demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish, required

· Experience in POS Systems (Square), local retail competition, pricing strategies and merchandising techniques

· Technology skills including, but not limited to Microsoft Office suite, Salesforce, Bloomerang, Square, etc.

· Excellent customer service skills, communication, active listening and speaking skills

· Candidates may be subject to a background check post-offer of employment

Physical requirements of the position include:

· Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of equipment

· The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and twist
