Summary: The Director of Radiology/RSO is responsible for supervising, managing, and providing support to the Facility Supervisors and Imaging Technologists at both a technical and administrative level. The Radiation Safety Officer is responsible for the radiation safety program. RSO makes sure that the company is complying with all laws and regulations regarding radiation. 

 

Essential Functions: 

  • Responsible for administration, planning, organizing, control and overall general management of company-wide imaging services. 

  • Develop, implement, and continually monitor quality standards, ethics, and compliance in the imaging department. 

  • Works closely with the Chief Medical Officer and Chief Nursing Officer to ensure efficient, effective, and high-quality operations 

  • Effectively and efficiently manages multiple projects. 

  • Selects, promotes, orients and conducts performance review processes within the department and assures that all related actions are handled in a fair and consistent manner. 

  • Staffs the department appropriately with qualified, credentialed, and competent staff. 

  • Orients, evaluates, coaches, monitors and disciplines staff as appropriate. 

  • Conducts staff meetings, ensures effective communication with all staff, clinical updates, quality, risk, and safety reporting and discussion, financial update, customer satisfaction issues discussion and opportunities. 

  • Ensures full compliance with all federal, state, local, and facility regulations, policies, and procedures. 

  • Formulates policies, procedures, and protocols related to imaging services, patient processing, instrument and equipment maintenance and general operations. 

  • Develops performance improvement plans 

  • Monitors productivity and quality standards 

  • Initiates counseling sessions in accordance with positive performance guidelines. 

  • Reports and documents problems relating to staffing morale, work, methods, procedures, transfers, and recommends action in all personnel matters. 

  • Deals directly with service organizations to ensure adequate equipment care. 

  • Coordinates and participates in formal and continuing education programs of the department, instructs, and demonstrates specific techniques, initiation of new procedures and use of equipment. 

  • Provides fair and impartial application to all employees. 

  • Adheres to prescribed standards of radiation safety; participate in quality improvement and safety programs. 

  • Knowledge and appropriate utilization of the occurrence reporting system. 

  • Orders supplies for the department; actively seeking ways to control costs without compromising patient safety, quality of care or services delivered. 

  • Demonstrates sensitivity to differing views and needs. 

  • Review and approval of employee time, attendance, and payroll data from time sheets. 

  • Monitors and tracks employee occurrences. 

  • Communicates and coordinates with facility supervisors. Provides guidance and facilitation in the development of a continuous quality improvement program as related to imaging clinical activities. 

  • Ensures that all scheduled work is accomplished in a timely manner, customer needs are met, day-to-day operations are communicated as needed and appropriate resources are utilized to minimize any service interruptions. 

  • Reviews, revises and updates staff competency at the end of orientation and annually in conjunction with leads and supervisors. Ensures team members complete competencies within required time frames. 

  • Assists supervisors on an as needed basis with staff scheduling and maintains schedules for areas without supervisors. 

  • Assists supervisors with resolution of issues when necessary. 

  • Works to resolve deficiencies and to maintain a state of continued readiness. 

  • Represents department and company by actively participating in committees and community marketing activities for the growth, development of a better company. 

  • Manages issues encompassed by accreditation and state and /or federal licensure. 

  • Ensures implementation and effective use of preventative maintenance programs. 

  • Ensures information in manuals or on forms is updated. 

  • Pursue creative strategies to lower costs while maintaining or enhancing quality. 

  • Attend and participate in operations, administrative and governing body meetings. 

Qualifications:


Required Education:
- Bachelor's Degree preferred.  Additional state requirements as applicable.   A combination of education, training, and experience may substitute for education requirements.
- Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiography.

Required Experience:
- At least 3 years of management experience.

Required Skills and Abilities:
- Strong understanding of radiographic procedures and patient positioning.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with patients and healthcare team members.
- Ability to follow safety protocols and maintain a sterile environment.
- Proficiency in using radiology information systems and electronic health records.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team.
