What are the responsibilities and job description for the Occupational Therapist OTR/L position at Family Enrichment Network, Inc.?
The Occupational Therapist performs evaluations, designs, and implements occupational therapy treatments on an individual basis for assigned individuals.
· Demonstrates extensive knowledge of motor development, assessment, and interventions.
· Assesses and recommends appropriate adaptations for the children to use in the classroom and home.
· Models developmentally appropriate practices.
· Adequately prepares individual and group therapy sessions based on children’s objectives and classroom learning opportunities.
· Works with content area support staff and classroom team to develop and implement assigned children's IEPs.
· Completes and submits all monthly billing and Medicaid reimbursement forms in a timely manner to the Coordinator of Clinical Services.
· Provides Occupational Therapy services to children with special needs as determined by the child’s (Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
· Provides services to children using procedures involving physical, sensory, manual, creative, and recreational play activities.
· Assist child achieve a maximum level of independence in toileting, feeding, personal hygiene, dressing, grooming, and mobility.
· Engages students by creating motivating treatment sessions
· Travels to community sites (including homes) for Occupational Therapy services, including related service, early intervention treatments, and/or evaluations
· Observes, records, and reports individual child behavior maintaining accurate, prompt, and confidential documentation.
· Provides an environment of acceptance; enhances children's understanding of themselves as individuals.
· Communicates with children in a positive manner, providing a supportive social and emotional climate.
· Assists with the appropriate transitioning of children with special needs to their next learning environment.
· Assesses and recommends appropriate adaptations for the children to use in the classroom and home.
· Updates children’s objectives relating to the IEPs, as necessary with supervision.
· Administer and interpret evaluations for preschool and early intervention children
· Provide screenings to local community sites on an as needed basis
· Participates in joint treatment sessions with supervising Occupational Therapist on a regular basis (as determined by the supervising Occupational Therapist), including verbal and written constructive feedback and assessing children’s goals and functional status.
· Stresses follow through of therapy goals in the classroom setting and supporting classroom goals in therapy.
· Provides service coordination for approved children.
· Provides training to classroom staff and families on the proper use of recommended adaptive equipment.
· Works with parents and staff to plan appropriate at-home activities for children.
· Participates in scheduled parent conferences twice yearly and additional individual conferences as needed.
· Participates in workshops, in-service training, classroom team meetings, and regular staff meetings. Shares appropriate information.
· Participates as a committee member of the Head Start Early Childhood Development/Special Services Committee/Health Advisory and other Agency committees, and other community sponsored events as requested.
· Participates in Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) Conferences upon request.
· Actively reflects on therapy results and willingly engages in discussions designed to improve professional practice.
· Supervises fieldwork students as requested. Follows protocol and provides weekly feedback.
· Keeps up to date with developments in the profession of Occupational Therapy to ensure that the best services are provided to the children and families.
· Attends continuing education conferences. Must provide staff with an in-service on appropriate learned information
· Assists in organizing training activities to meet the diverse needs of parents with children of special needs.
