Position Summary
The Community Engagement & Media Advocate is responsible for increasing awareness of the Family Crisis Center’s mission, programs, and services through creative media, marketing, community outreach, public education, and advocacy. This position serves as a visible representative of the Family Crisis Center in the community and works to build strong relationships with community partners, schools, businesses, civic organizations, media outlets, and the general public.
The Community Engagement & Media Advocate will develop engaging and trauma-informed content that educates the community about domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, human trafficking, stalking, healthy relationships, personal safety, and available victim services. This position will also assist with planning and promoting agency events, prevention campaigns, awareness activities, and community education opportunities.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities Marketing & Media
· Develop and maintain a consistent, professional, and mission-focused public image for the Family Crisis Center.
· Create graphics, flyers, brochures, presentations, social media content, newsletters, advertisements, and other promotional materials.
· Manage and create content for agency social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, tik tok and others).
· Assist with website content, updates, and online communications.
· Photograph and/or record agency events and activities while following all confidentiality and client privacy requirements.
· Develop videos, reels, digital campaigns, and other creative media to increase community awareness and engagement.
· Coordinate with local media outlets regarding press releases, interviews, public announcements, and agency events.
· Maintain an organized library of approved photographs, graphics, logos, marketing materials, and other media.
· Ensure all public communications follow agency branding, confidentiality, and trauma-informed communication standards.
Community Outreach & Engagement
· Represent the Family Crisis Center at community events, fairs, conferences, schools, meetings, and other public activities.
· Develop and maintain positive relationships with community organizations, businesses, schools, churches, civic groups, healthcare providers, law enforcement, and other community partners.
· Identify opportunities to increase awareness of Family Crisis Center services throughout the agency’s service area.
· Coordinate and participate in community awareness campaigns related to domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, human trafficking, and other forms of interpersonal violence.
· Assist with planning, organizing, promoting, and staffing agency events, fundraisers, awareness activities, and prevention programs.
· Recruit and coordinate community volunteers, event participants, sponsors, and outreach partners as appropriate.
· Help identify emerging community needs and opportunities for new outreach and prevention initiatives.
Advocacy & Public Education
· Provide trauma-informed education to community members, schools, organizations, and professional groups.
· Present information regarding victim services, prevention, healthy relationships, personal safety, child safety, cyber safety, and other agency programming.
· Provide appropriate advocacy, education, and referrals to individuals who seek assistance during outreach activities.
· Maintain knowledge of Family Crisis Center programs and services and appropriately connect individuals to available resources.
· Promote a victim-centered, empowerment-based approach in all interactions.
· Advocate for increased community awareness and understanding of domestic and sexual violence and the impact on individuals, families, and communities.
· Assist with prevention education programming as assigned.
Events & Special Projects
· Assist with planning and implementation of agency awareness events, community activities, and prevention initiatives.
· Coordinate marketing materials and promotional campaigns for special events.
· Work with community partners, vendors, sponsors, volunteers, and staff to ensure successful events.
· Attend evening and weekend events as needed.
· Assist with special projects identified through the agency’s strategic plan and community needs assessments.
Collaboration & Administration
· Work collaboratively with advocacy, shelter, Child Advocacy Center, prevention, and administrative staff.
· Participate in staff meetings, trainings, supervision, and other agency activities.
· Maintain accurate records of outreach activities, presentations, contacts, and community engagement.
· Assist with collecting data and documentation needed for grant reporting and program evaluation.
· Maintain confidentiality regarding clients, staff, agency operations, and sensitive information.
· Follow all Family Crisis Center policies and procedures.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, graphic design, social work, human services, education, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
· Experience with social media management, graphic design, marketing, communications, public relations, community outreach, or advocacy.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills.
· Ability to create professional and engaging written and visual content.
· Comfortable speaking and presenting to both small and large groups.
· Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
· Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office and common social media platforms.
· Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar design software preferred.
· Reliable transportation and the ability to travel throughout the agency’s service area.
· Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends for community events.
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience working in a nonprofit or social service organization.
· Knowledge of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, human trafficking, stalking, or other victim-service issues.
· Experience with nonprofit marketing, fundraising, event planning, or grant-funded programs.
· Experience with photography, videography, video editing, or digital content creation.
· Experience providing presentations or prevention education.
· Bilingual or multilingual skills are a plus.

Physical & Work Requirements
This position requires the ability to work in an office, community, school, and event environment. The employee may be required to sit, stand, walk, lift and carry event materials, set up tables and displays, and work for extended periods during community events. Occasional evening and weekend work is required based on agency events and community needs.

The Community Engagement & Media Advocate plays an important role in telling the story of the Family Crisis Center, connecting the community to available resources, increasing awareness, and helping create safer and healthier communities throughout the agency’s service area.
Pay: $44,000.00 - $48,000.00 per year
