What are the responsibilities and job description for the Behavioral Health Care Coordinator position at Family & Children's Service of Ithaca?
The Behavioral Health Care Coordinator provides critical administrative support to the psychiatric team, including medication workflows, scheduling, follow-ups, and scripted risk triage. This role does not involve clinical judgment.
Responsibilities
- Manage medication refill requests and route appropriately.
- Complete I-STOP checks and prepare documentation.
- Process prior authorizations and coordinate with pharmacies.
- Track labs and follow-up testing as directed by providers.
- Schedule psychiatric appointments and manage provider calendars.
- Provide follow up client calls according to prescriber requests.
- Conduct scripted risk screens (e.g., C-SSRS) and escalate concerns.
- Assist with filling out releases of information and coordinating records exchange with others as needed.
- Conduct records reviews of outside records received and/or past histories of client’s care and summarize for prescribers based on template provided for review.
- Document all client interactions in the EHR.
- Communicate with therapists, prescribers, pharmacies, and external providers.
- Complete caseload reviews to ensure scope of care being provided in psychiatry matches specialty care level and facilitates transition to PCP/Pediatrician when appropriate.
- Provides back up support for other support team functions as required.
- Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Strong administrative and communication skills.
- Ability to work professionally with individuals experiencing mental health symptoms.
- Familiarity with healthcare or willingness to be trained.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s in psychology, social work, or related field; or MA/LPN Certification
- Experience in behavioral health or medical office settings.
- Experience with electronic health records..
