Organizational Overview

Established in 2022, the Family Caregiver Center of New Mexico (FCCNM) is the only community-based organization focused solely on the needs of family caregivers in New Mexico. We provide services to family caregivers who care for adults 18 years or older. We ensure that family caregivers have access to resources and a solid foundation of support to navigate the challenges of caring for adults with serious diseases or conditions. FCCNM cares for those who care for others.

About the Role

Family Caregiver Center of New Mexico is the only nonprofit in New Mexico dedicated entirely to supporting family caregivers. We've always believed that caregivers need one another and that a caregiver who feels connected to other caregivers is stronger, steadier, and less alone in one of the hardest jobs many people will ever do. The Caregiver Community Manager exists to make that belief real, every day, across every channel we have. The Caregiver Community Manager, above all, works to engage family caregivers with FCCNM services and supports, and connect family caregivers to one another.

This role leads New Mexico Family Caregivers Connect, which includes:

● A closed Facebook group to share ideas, struggles, and support

● Monthly e-newsletters with helpful resources

● Virtual monthly presentations featuring speakers on key topics

The Caregiver Community Manager weaves the idea of caregiver community into everything from Facebook comments to Zoom webinar to conversations with partner agencies. It's a role for someone who is highly digitally fluent, deeply organized, genuinely relationship-oriented, and creative in how they bring people together, someone who understands caregivers without needing to have been one, and who can hold both the big picture (what community means) and the small details (who replied, who needs a follow-up, what's on next month's calendar) at the same time.

The Caregiver Community Manager is an integral part of a small, closely connected team of five. Rather than working in silos, the team is organized around the caregiver's journey as they move through FCCNM's services (Care Navigation, Support Groups, Powerful Tools for Caregivers, and Caregivers Connect). This role owns the Caregivers Connect piece of that picture and works with the rest of the team to make sure every caregiver gets the support they need, whenever and however they enter our services.

What You'll Do

New Mexico Family Caregivers Connect

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for Caregivers Connect inquiries, explaining the program, why joining matters, and welcoming new caregivers into the community
  • Manage the New Mexico Family Caregivers Connect private (visible) Facebook group day to day: prompts, moderation, responses, and drawing in team members for individualized support (Care Navigation, Support Groups, Powerful Tools for Caregivers) when needed
  • Plan, coordinate, and facilitate Zoom presentations and webinars for the caregiver community, handling both the content and the live technical/hosting side. This includes all communication with presenters.
  • Manage the Caregivers Connect email newsletter by working closely with the FCCNM team and community partners to organize and create content
  • Shape newsletter content to be genuinely engaging with real caregiver voices and stories, events, and opportunities

Relationship-Building Outreach

  • Build and maintain relationships with organizations and agencies that encounter family caregivers as part of their daily work, including senior-related organizations, disease-related organizations, disability-related organizations, community-based organizations, and governmental organizations
  • Provide tools for providers and referral sources to help family caregiver self-identification
  • Communicate with these partners directly through a mix of phone calls, emails, virtual and in-person meetings, choosing the channel that fits the relationship and the moment
  • Supervise, recruit, train, and support a small group of volunteers doing Caregivers Connect outreach, including onboarding, ongoing check-ins, and hands-on guidance for outreach efforts like health fairs and community events. This role supervises volunteers only; it does not manage staff or a budget.
  • Represent FCCNM at community health fairs and events with partner organizations, building the kind of ongoing relationships that lead to steady referrals

Social Media & Content

  • Manage all organizational social media accounts, posting consistently and responding to comments and messages with warmth
  • Bring a strategic, creative eye to how we tell the story of caregiver community across every channel

Community & Program Connection

  • Understand and speak to the full picture of what “community” means at our organization including how Powerful Tools for Caregivers, Support Groups, and Care Navigation each function as sources of connection for caregivers

What You Bring

  • Display an unwavering commitment to improving the lives and outcomes for family caregivers
  • Interest in working with a small collaborative team that primarily works remotely
  • Strong digital skills, including high proficiency in Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Drive, Calendar), as well as Zoom, Facebook groups/pages, social media, and comfort learning whatever platform the community needs next
  • Excellent organization and attention to detail. This role tracks inquiries, member engagement, partner relationships, volunteers, content calendars, and event logistics
  • Demonstrated experience in building community, whether through organizing groups, running programs, or growing engagement in an online or in-person setting
  • A relationship-first instinct: you notice who's quiet in the group, who hasn't been heard from in a while, who needs a personal follow-up rather than a form email. You bring that same instinct to partner organizations, not just individual caregivers
  • Experience writing or editing content for newsletters, social media, or member communications. You can turn program updates and caregiver stories into engaging, readable content
  • Experience planning and hosting virtual events or webinars, including managing the technical/logistical side (registration, screen-sharing, troubleshooting) as well as the content
  • Experience managing an online community or group (Facebook group, forum, membership platform, etc.), including moderation, prompting engagement, and handling sensitive posts appropriately
  • Comfortable and confident communicating by phone, email, virtually, and in person, and able to judge which one a given relationship calls for
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple ongoing workstreams simultaneously including but not limited to inquiries, content calendars, partner relationships, and event logistics
  • Able to travel statewide as needed for partner visits and events, and reliable transportation to do so
  • Creative, strategic thinking about how to build and grow an online and offline community
  • Work with the FCCNM team to create and update the strategic plan for growing the community each year
  • Comfortable moving between behind-the-scenes work (content, tracking, email) and public-facing work (webinars, outreach calls, site visits, events)
  • Understanding of the cultural, ethnic, linguistic, and geographic diversity across New Mexico's urban and rural communities, and how these differences shape outreach and service delivery

What Success Looks Like

  • Family caregivers throughout the state are more engaged with FCCNM’s supportive services and with one another
  • New Mexico Family Caregivers Connect members engage regularly, the Facebook group is active and warm rather than quiet or one-directional, and webinar attendance grows
  • More caregivers move from “connected” to “supported”: increased access to resources and utilization of Care Navigation, Support Groups, and the Powerful Tools for Caregivers course, driven by the relationships this role builds
  • Partner organizations and agencies that encounter family caregivers know who to call, refer consistently, and treat Family Caregiver Center of New Mexico as a trusted resource
  • Volunteers feel supported and effective in their outreach and projects
  • More caregivers throughout New Mexico feel genuinely supported and less alone, and can point to Family Caregiver Center of New Mexico as the reason why
