Title: Coding Supervisor

Location: Administrative Office - Patient Accounts Department (on-site)

City: Bellingham, WA

Position: Full-time, Monday-Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, non-exempt (hourly)

Compensation: The full wage scale is $28.75 - $39.64 per hour. Placement within the wage range is determined by a candidate’s relevant experience.

Time Off & Wellness:

  • PTO, PSL, and EIB accrue starting on your first day, and you can use paid time off after the applicable days of employment
  • Full-time employees generally begin earning 18 days of PTO, increasing to 33 days over time per our PTO policy.  You can rollover unlimited PTO hours into the next year.
  • PSL accrues at 1 hour per 40 hours worked
  • EIB accrues up to 32 hours per year (pro-rated based on hours worked) for both part-time and full-time employees, with a maximum of 480 hours

Job Summary: The Coding Supervisor coordinates the daily operations of the Patient Accounts Department (PAD) Coding Team, provides support to PAD Manager, PAD staff and FCN clinics and supervises the PAD Coding Team (General Coding Compliance and Risk Adjustment).  This position is responsible for monitoring CHA activity, Coding Education and Audits, participating in department hiring and performance management processes.  The Coding Supervisor is also responsible for new PAD coding staff training and on-going skill development, including coaching. 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Coordinates the daily workflow of the Patient Accounts Department (PAD) Coding Team. 
  • Provides support to staff as needed, including resolving complex coding issues.
  • Serves as a working Supervisor by actively working coding tasks.
  • Trains new employees and conduct reviews of their work for accuracy.
  • Reviews and approves PTO requests for direct reports.
  • Assists in maintaining and updating policies and procedures.
  • Assists the manager in collecting and compiling information for staff performance reviews.
  • Conducts audits of staff work (quality assessments) to ensure accuracy and adherence to standards.
  • Monitors changes in applicable Healthcare regulations, coding & billing rules and assist in developing related policies as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate adaptability and support for organizational changes.
  • Maintains effective, professional working relationships with all team members.
  • Leads monthly meetings for Coding and Risk Adjustment teams, records minutes of topics reviewed, and provides direction related to any current issues.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Able to navigate Epic, Word and Excel.
  • Understanding of insurance billing and EOBs.
  • Knowledge of CPT & ICD-10 Coding Guidelines.
  • Ability to perform detailed work accurately.
  • Skill in establishing good employee relations including conflict resolution.
  • Comprehend and communicate information accurately and clearly (verbally and in writing, in person and via phone) with patients, all levels of personnel, and other individuals and groups.
  • Accurately perform detailed work, (i.e plan, multi-task, organize and prioritize).
  • Models a positive work ethic and customer friendly relations.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent knowledge and skills obtained through a combination of education, training, and experience.
  • 2 or more years’ experience with internal patient accounts operations preferred.
  • CPC & CRC certifications required.

Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to: stand; walk; sit; use hand to finger coordination, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance, stoop, kneel, crouch; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus.

Immunization Requirements: Employees are required to meet immunization standards in accordance with federal, state, and organizational health and safety guidelines, as applicable to the role. A simple process is in place for employees to request exemptions for medical or religious reasons.
