What are the responsibilities and job description for the Registered Veterinary Technician position at Family and Friends Veterinary Care?
Family & Friends Veterinary Care is looking for an experienced Registered Veterinary Technician to join our busy small-animal practice in the heart of Fort Collins. We're open Monday–Saturday and offer flexible scheduling with great benefits. Full-time hours include four 10-hour shifts with three days off.
Responsibilities include:
- Performing venipuncture, IV catheter placement, and fluid therapy
- Anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery
- Administering medications and vaccinations as directed by the veterinarian
- Dental prophylaxis, scaling, and dental radiographs
- Diagnostic imaging, including radiographs
- Running and interpreting in-house lab work (bloodwork, urinalysis, fecal, cytology)
- Surgical preparation and assisting during procedures
- Monitoring Anesthesia
- Patient restraint and handling, including for urgent/emergency cases
- Client communication and education on treatment plans, medications, and home care
- Maintaining accurate medical records in Cornerstone
- Mentoring and supporting veterinary assistants and other support staff
- Assisting with clinic flow and case prioritization
- General cleaning and equipment maintenance to uphold safety and sanitation standards
Ideal Candidates will have:
- Current RVT license/credential (required)
- Cornerstone experience preferred
- One or more years of clinical experience as a veterinary technician
- Strong knowledge of anesthesia monitoring, dental procedures, and diagnostic testing
- Solid understanding of animal breed, behavior, and safe handling techniques
- Ability to recognize signs of illness and support urgent medical needs
- Excellent communication skills, both with clients and the care team
- Ability to multitask and stay calm in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
- A genuine passion for veterinary medicine and animal welfare
Education/Experience: RVT credential required. Minimum one year of clinical veterinary technician experience preferred.
Knowledge: Proficiency with Cornerstone and Microsoft Office a plus.
