Overview
The Home-Based Caseworker provides direct, in-home services to families involved with the Indiana Department of Child Services (DCS) and/or juvenile probation. This role supports families by promoting safety, permanency, and well-being for children while empowering parents and caregivers to build skills that reduce risk factors and strengthen protective factors. This is a 1099 Independent Contractor position.

Duties

  • Provide home-based services as referred by DCS or probation, including parent education, supervision, mentoring, transportation, and case management.
  • Model and teach positive parenting skills, problem-solving, and conflict resolution.
  • Assist families in identifying strengths and needs while developing individualized service goals.
  • Support parents in understanding child development, discipline strategies, and healthy communication.
  • Monitor child safety during visits and in the home environment; report concerns immediately in compliance with mandated reporting laws.
  • Provide linkage and referrals to community resources such as housing, employment, education, and mental health services.
  • Maintain professional boundaries while establishing a supportive and respectful relationship with families.
  • Document all services provided, including progress notes, reports, and service plans, in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Collaborate with DCS case managers, probation officers, service providers, and other professionals involved in the case.
  • Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and court hearings as needed.
  • Adhere to all agency policies, state regulations, and ethical standards.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, sociology, criminal justice, or related human services field.
  • Experience: Prior experience working with children and families preferred. Knowledge of child welfare, family dynamics, trauma-informed care, and community resources is a plus.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a flexible schedule.
  • Cultural competency and ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Crisis management and de-escalation skills.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Must pass background checks as required by DCS standards.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required by family needs.
