What are the responsibilities and job description for the Direct Support: Bennington position at Families First?
Founded in 1996, Families First is a non-profit organization that provides person-centered services for individuals living with developmental disabilities in Southern Vermont. Our services aim to promote independent living, enhance self-esteem, and cultivate community membership through caring and respectful relationships.
Families First is hiring a Full-time and Part-time Direct Support Professional to work 1:1 with an individual living with a disability in Bennington County, VT. Families First is seeking an individual who is active, patient, creative, and is comfortable setting clear boundaries. Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is recommended.
Reliable transportation and a valid Driver's License are required, as you will be traveling throughout Bennington County. Comfort with medication administration, and general hygiene, is also recommended. Prospective employees must be able to pass background checks and have 2 successful professional references.
There is a $300 sign-on bonus for part-time employees and $500 for full-time employees after 90 days of continued employment. All trainings are paid.
Requirements:
- Develop and maintain a relationship with the individual assigned to you. Provide community, employment, and/or home support.
- Participate in monthly team meetings regarding the advocate.
- Read, understand, and assist with the goals of the Individual Support Agreement Plan. Develop an understanding of the diagnosis and its impact on the individual, and keep updating that understanding, as necessary.
- Have technical skills. Families First utilizes the Carelogic database daily to log time worked, write progress notes, and address self-advocacy goals. Having regular access to a laptop and/or home computer is highly recommended.
- Communicate regularly with office staff at Families First around any duties, clinical issues, questions, and/or follow-ups concerns.
- Complete pre-service training. Attend any mandatory Medical Administration Training, First Aid, and/or Crisis Prevention trainings. Trainings are located in Brattleboro. Staff hired for this role will have to travel to Brattleboro for 2-3 days of initial training.
