Are you someone who takes pride in maintaining clean, safe, and welcoming spaces? Families and Communities Rising, Inc. (FCR, Inc.) is seeking a dedicated Environmental Health Specialist to support our Head Start and Early Head Start programs throughout Durham and Orange Counties.
In this role, you will play an essential part in ensuring that children, families, and staff have a clean, safe, and healthy environment in which to learn, grow, and thrive. From facility maintenance and sanitation to building safety and repairs, your work will directly contribute to the well-being of the children and communities we serve.
What You'll Do
As an Environmental Health Specialist, you will:
- Maintain the cleanliness and sanitation of classrooms, offices, restrooms, kitchens, and common areas.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and clean floors, walls, windows, furnishings, and equipment.
- Ensure restrooms and facilities remain stocked with necessary supplies.
- Safely use, store, and maintain cleaning products and equipment in accordance with safety standards and regulations.
- Remove trash, recyclables, and waste materials and prepare items for disposal or scheduled pick-up.
- Perform minor facility repairs and preventative maintenance within scope of responsibility.
- Report maintenance concerns and repair needs through the ChildPlus work order system.
- Maintain clean and safe exterior grounds, entrances, exits, sidewalks, and walkways.
- Assist with weather-related safety measures, including ice melt application and hazard prevention.
- Post appropriate safety signage when maintenance or cleaning activities are being performed.
- Ensure facilities are properly secured at the end of each day and after special events.
What We're Looking For
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in building maintenance, custodial services, sanitation, janitorial services, or facility operations.
- Experience performing minor building repairs and preventative maintenance.
- Ability to safely operate cleaning equipment and maintenance tools.
- Ability to lift and carry at least 25 pounds.
