Reading Specialist (Long Term Substitute)

Location: Lawrence School / Falmouth High School

2025-2026 School Year


QUALIFICATIONS
:

  • Massachusetts Licensure as a Reading Specialist (All Levels) required
  • Additional Massachusetts Licensure in English, n Moderate Disabilities 5-12, or Elementary 1 - 6 required
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field within education required
  • Master’s degree in special education, reading, and/or literacy preferred
  • SEI Teacher Endorsement required
  • Knowledge of the Science of Reading and structured literacy preferred
  • Experience with identifying specific student needs relative to reading and personalizing instruction accordingly preferred
  • Experience with specially designed instruction, progress monitoring, and assessment for students with disabilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Such other alternative qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may deem acceptable or appropriate


RESPONSIBILITIES
:

  • In collaboration with colleagues, teachers and administrators, use assessment data to identify students who are not making adequate progress and are in need of intervention and subsequent progress monitoring.
  • Plan and implement small group and individualized tier 2 and tier 3 interventions within an MTSS framework.
  • Provide explicit, systematic, and sequential instruction in foundational reading skills to students who are identified for additional support and intervention.
  • Under the direction of the instructional leadership and in collaboration with grade level colleagues, design, implement, and revise lessons specific to reading instruction and intervention.
  • Effectively advance excellence and equity through instructional practices designed to meet the unique needs of all students, including those who are multilingual English language learners, qualifying for a 504 plan, or receiving special education services.
  • Utilize evidence-based screening and assessment tools.
  • Evaluate classroom activities on a daily and long-range basis in respect to educational goals.
  • Monitor student progress; keep accurate and appropriate progress monitoring, assessment, and attendance records.
  • Utilize appropriate programs, materials, and technology for reading instruction and intervention.
  • Support classroom teachers and related service providers in the improvement of reading instruction, including consultation and professional development.Develop effective relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Using available media, routinely communicate with students, families, colleagues, counselors, and administrators regarding each student’s individual progress.
  • Participate in Instructional Support Team and Special Education Team meetings, as appropriate, with attention to student strengths and challenges in literacy/reading.
  • Accept supervision and guidance from members of the school instructional leadership team, including the Principal.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior.
  • Effectively employ classroom management strategies to create a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Accept supervision and guidance from the instructional leadership and Principal.
  • Attend professional meetings as required and scheduled.
  • Serve on committees for curriculum revision and for the general operation of the school.
  • Continue professional growth by attending meetings, seminars, courses, and other endorsed professional learning.
  • Cooperate with principal, colleagues, and families in extra-curricular activities.
  • Assume necessary supervisory responsibilities when required.
  • Such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Principal, and/or other supervising instructional leaders
