GOAL:
Uses leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills to plan, assess, manage, supervise, and improve all aspects of the Falmouth Athletic Department aligned with the district vision, theory of action and commitment to excellence and equity for every scholar. The Director of Athletics is the acting liaison between student- athletes, coaches, parents, faculty, and administration.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid state certification as Principal, Supervisor/Director.
- Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree in Athletic Administration preferred.
- Coursework in organization and administration of athletic and physical programs.
- Experience as a varsity athletic coach is required. Head varsity athletic coach is preferred
- Experience as a middle or high school teacher is preferred.
- Certified Athletic Administrator (CAA)
- Program management skills substantiated by training and/or experience.
- Comprehensive command of all aspects of interscholastic athletic program regulations including Title IX and Anti-Harassment and Discrimination practices.
- Experience in budgeting and finance including work with booster organizations.
- Certified in First Aid, CPR, AED, and Basic Water Safety.
- Such other alternatives as the Superintendent of Schools may deem acceptable and appropriate.
RESPONSIBILITY: The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as an illustration of the various types of work that may be performed. - Supervises all aspects of the middle school and the high school interscholastic and intramural athletic programs.
- Available to work irregular hours and/or a non-traditional schedule on a twelve month contract
- Supervise and evaluate the performance of all coaches.
- Ensure all coaches & staff are trained in all state mandated trainings including the Massachusetts Concussion Law 105 CMR 201: Head Injuries and Concussions in Extracurricular Athletic Activities.
- Ensure all coaches and staff engage in ongoing professional development
- Supervise and evaluate the full range of interscholastic athletics.
- Provide leadership in the recruitment, selection and assignment of athletics coaches.
- Ensure all coaches and staff have completed mandatory training, meet qualifications and completed all necessary background checks before working with students.
- Develop a vision for and plan of practice fostering strong school-community relationships.
- Provides support, guidance, and accountability to help student-athletes benefit from athletic program participation.
- Ensures compliance with relevant rules and policies of the Falmouth Public Schools and the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA).
- Represents and advocates on behalf of the school district with the MIAA and League.
- Responsible for supervision and/or coverage of all required contests.
- In collaboration with the school administrative team responsible for student safety and decorum at events.
- Coordinate all medical protocol and communication with respective medical care providers, including reporting any injuries to the school nurses as needed.
- Assume responsibility for the organization and scheduling of all interscholastic athletic events.
- Develop and place into operation appropriate rules, regulations, processes and procedures, governing the conduct of athletic activities.
- Hire officials, team physicians, and police officers as required, and assume general responsibility for the proper supervision of home games.
- Responsible for all aspects of travel to athletic events including arranging transportation for athletic contest participants, lodging, meals and others aligned with pertaining regulations related to travel including all appropriate approvals.
- Prepare and administer the athletic program budget in consultation with the school administration and Director of Business of Operations.
- Requisition, in cooperation with appropriate staff members, supplies, uniforms and equipment for athletic programs.
- Supervise the cleaning, storage and care of all athletic equipment.
- Supervise all ticket sales and fundraising events connected with the athletic program and assume responsibility for proper handling and accounting of monies involved. Supervise all details of visiting team needs.
- Make all necessary arrangements for the use of non-school playing fields and facilities.
- Arrange the practice schedules for the coaches, on the fields and in the gymnasiums, cooperating in this area with the Physical Education Department Head.
- Work with the school physician in making available physical examinations for all athletes prior to the beginning of each season.
- Administer the insurance program covering school athletes, and assume responsibility for all processing of reports and claims.
- Work with the school administrative team in fostering support for the athletic teams and school spirit among non-participants.
- Foster recognition programs for school athletes.
- Such other duties may be assigned by the Principals and/or Superintendent of Schools.
SUPERVISES: Coaches, Trainers, Student Activities/Athletics Secretary, Field House and Equipment Maintenance Personnel, Athletic fields and facilities.
EVALUATION: Evaluated annually in accordance with the School Committee's policy on Evaluations of Administrative Personnel. Evaluated by High School and Lawrence School Principals.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 Month Position
SALARY: $115,000 to $125,000 per year
REPORTS TO: Principals of Falmouth High and Lawrence Schools.
