Job Title: K-12 Behavior Interventionist
Location: Falls Lake Academy
Reports To: Director of Student Services
Work Year: 10-month
FLSA Status: Exempt
Position Summary:
The Behavior Interventionist supports students, staff, and families by implementing evidence-based behavioral strategies to improve student success in academic and social environments. This role focuses on early intervention, direct student support, and collaboration with educators to create positive, proactive, and inclusive learning environments for all students in grades K–12.
Key Responsibilities:
Direct Student Support:
  • Provide individual and small-group behavior intervention to students exhibiting challenging behaviors.
  • Develop rapport with students to promote positive behavior, emotional regulation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and collect data to monitor student progress.
  • Support students in crisis using de-escalation techniques and trauma-informed practices.
  • Helping to instill student self-accountability and a proactive approach to behavior improvements.
Collaboration & Consultation:
  • Work closely with teachers, counselors, administrators, and special education staff to support students’ behavioral needs.
  • Participate in Student Support Team, MTSS, RTI, or IEP meetings as needed.
  • Provide coaching and modeling for staff on behavior strategies and classroom management practices.
  • Communicate regularly with families and caregivers regarding student progress and intervention strategies.
Data, Documentation & Compliance:
  • Maintain accurate documentation of interventions, behavior data, and student performance.
  • Conduct behavior assessments (e.g., ABC data collection, functional behavior observations).
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and revision of BIPs based on data.
  • Ensure all work aligns with district policies, state regulations, and ethical guidelines.
Schoolwide Support:
  • Promote positive school climate through PBIS or other district-adopted frameworks.
  • Assist in developing and modeling proactive behavior systems and expectations.
  • Support crisis response teams and provide de-escalation assistance when needed.
Qualifications:
Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, education, social work, or related field.
  • Experience with special education, MTSS, PBIS, or trauma-informed practices.
  • Licensed in EC or related field.
  • Knowledge of behavior modification principles, data collection, and intervention planning.
  • Experience working with children or youth in educational, clinical, or community settings.
  • Training or willingness to be trained in behavior intervention, crisis prevention, and de-escalation.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, patience, and ability to build positive relationships.
  • Strong desire and motivation to make an impact in all students by working with them daily and partnering with parents for improved results.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, or move frequently throughout the school day.
  • Ability to assist students in crisis, including physical intervention if trained and required.
  • Ability to lift or move up to 40 lbs (if relevant to your school).
Work Environment:
  • School campus (classrooms, hallways, playgrounds, arrival/dismissal areas).
  • Fast-paced environment with frequent interactions with students and staff.
