SUMMARY: This position is responsible for sales from the gallery and gift shop as well as the retention of customers through positive, professional rapport building. The manager’s role is to maintain efficient processes for inventory control, sales of items, and the intake of monetary donations from visitors, customers, and members. This role is critical to the success of FCA because it leads the efforts to present a positive, competent, and friendly first impression to all who enter the front doors. This role supervises and trains the retail staff, sets the schedule, and assists with the exhibitions and artist relations as needed.

The major objectives for this position are as follows:

· Manages the daily operations of FAC’s gift shop and the sales of art from exhibitions.

· Ensures all staff are trained and follow the processes for accuracy, efficiency and professionalism.

· Identifies and deals with issues and strategies that need altering to maintain the continuous improvement of FAC.

· Serves as the liaison between the Exhibition and Membership Manager and the artists for both exhibition and gift shop art issues. (Ensures staff and Exhibition and Membership Manager are on the same page for artist needs.)

· Updates and maintains written procedures to ensure consistency with all retail staff.

· Helps with strategic planning for the gift store.

· Ensures that the inventory and cash are accurately accounted for and holds staff accountable for any discrepancies. (Follows and trains to written procedure already established.)

· Interacts with members and assists with renewals at the front desk. Communicates any renewals with the Exhibition and Membership Manager.

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Part Time (6 - 24 hours per week)

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Daily Operations:

· Oversees day-to-day operations of FAC staff, focusing on consistent practices, following FCA policies and maintaining positive rapport with visitors, customers and artists.

· Maintains and enforces policies and procedures to enhance organizational effectiveness

· Assists Executive Director with strategic plans, for FAC to achieve long-term goals

· Coordinates activities (such as calendar and changes in the gift shop) with and between retail staff to ensure smooth operations and address any challenges promptly

· Assists the Executive Director in ensuring that opening receptions and special events are staffed as appropriate

· Ensures and audits reconciliation of cash drawer, petty cash and point of sale (POS) receipts are accurate. This includes auditing staff on a regular basis.

· Ensures and audits the accuracy of the inventory and sales of the inventory.

· Works with gift shop artists to receive new inventory, replace inventory and phase out inventory as appropriate.

· Trains staff in all aspects of retail sales in the gallery and gift shop.

· Provides annual review of retail staff.

· Orders supplies for FAC for the office, cleaning and bathroom, opening reception and other special events as directed by the Executive Director.

Financial Management:

· Understands financial reports regarding retail sales and looks for ways to improve daily sales

· Monitors expenses and helps to ensure that the staff works within the budget of the gift shop.

· Works with the Executive Director on budget reporting and ideas to increase revenue while decreasing expenses.

Program Oversight:

· Ensures that gift shop items are rotated to highlight different artists in conjunction with the exhibition or the intake of a new artist.

· Ensures that the gift store is arranged in an inviting way that maximizes a visitor’s desire to walk through the whole store and buy!

· Works with staff to ensure high-quality service is delivered and addresses any issues that arise or passes them to the Executive Director as needed.

· Maintains housekeeping standards and the gift store’s visual objectives by straightening merchandise and assisting in fixture and floor changes. Trains staff to those standards.

· Maintains confidentiality of customer and artist information

· Represents FCA in a professional, positive manner at all times

· Works safely and maintains a safe work environment. Reports safety issues immediately to Executive Director.

Community Engagement:

· Cultivates and maintains strong relationships with visitors, artists and customers.

· Assists with staffing special events to ensure we can cover all retail activities.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

· Retail and merchandising experience

· Management experience

· Operating a POS system

· Accurately handling money

· Ability to produce reports and trends

· Strong written and verbal communication skills

· Ability to understand and analyze financial reports

· Ability to lead and work with a team

· 1 year of relevant experience in retail sales

· Proficient in technology, specifically a POS (Point of Sale), Word, Excel, and email applications

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB:

· Ability to perform the following tasks with or without accommodation:

o Stand for a full shift (6 hours)

o Speak with a variety of patrons and understand their request or issue

o Lift up to 25 lbs.

o Bend, squat, sit and climb to position inventory

o Climb stairs to get to the offices in FAC

o Push and pull items to position them to hold retail inventory

o Type and operate a computer and POS

o Answer the telephone and speak to callers

Pay: From $22.00 per hour
