Our classrooms are intentionally small—typically six students supported by one teacher and one teacher aide—allowing educators to develop meaningful relationships while providing individualized instruction and support.
As an Art Teacher, you'll inspire creativity and self-expression while helping students build confidence, communication skills, and fine motor development through engaging, hands-on art experiences. Lessons are thoughtfully adapted to meet each student's individual abilities, interests, and educational goals.

Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver engaging art lessons aligned with New York State Visual Arts Learning Standards and each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP).
- Adapt art instruction and projects to meet the diverse academic, behavioral, physical, and developmental needs of students with disabilities.
- Foster creativity, self-expression, problem-solving, and fine motor skill development through a variety of artistic media and techniques.
- Create and maintain a safe, organized, and welcoming art classroom that encourages student participation and success.
- Implement student IEPs, Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), and classroom accommodations during instruction.
- Assess student progress using formal and informal assessment methods and maintain accurate records.
- Prepare instructional materials, art supplies, classroom displays, and student projects.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, related service providers, administrators, and families to support student success.
- Utilize Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) techniques when necessary to maintain a safe learning environment.
- Participate in school meetings, professional development, school events, and other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- New York State Art (Visual Arts) Certification required.
- Students with Disabilities (SWD) certification preferred or willingness to work within a special education setting.
- Knowledge of New York State Physical Education Learning Standards
- Strong classroom management and instructional skills
- Commitment to building meaningful relationships with students
