Pay: $17.50 $5.42 per hour to utilize for Health Insurance
Schedule: On-Call

The Janitor plays a critical role in maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment within healthcare facilities across the VISN 5 region. This position ensures that all assigned areas, including patient rooms, offices, restrooms, and public spaces, are thoroughly cleaned and properly maintained to support the health and well-being of patients, staff, and visitors. The janitor will be responsible for adhering to strict hygiene and safety protocols, particularly important in a healthcare setting, to prevent the spread of infections and maintain compliance with regulatory standards. This role requires attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team to meet daily cleaning schedules and respond promptly to urgent cleaning needs. Ultimately, the janitor contributes to creating a welcoming and professional environment that supports the overall mission of the healthcare organization.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience in janitorial or custodial work, preferably in a healthcare or institutional setting.
• Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
• Physical ability to perform cleaning tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
• Basic knowledge of cleaning chemicals and equipment safety.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working in a healthcare environment with knowledge of infection control practices.
• Certification in cleaning or custodial services.
• Familiarity with OSHA regulations and safety standards.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with diverse teams.
• Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, or holidays if required.

Responsibilities:

• Perform routine cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and polishing floors and surfaces in patient care areas, offices, and public spaces.
• Sanitize restrooms, replenish supplies, and ensure all fixtures are clean and functioning properly.
• Dispose of waste and recycling materials in accordance with facility policies and environmental regulations.
• Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces and equipment to reduce the risk of infection transmission.
• Report maintenance issues, safety hazards, or supply shortages to the appropriate personnel promptly.
• Follow all safety protocols, including the proper use of cleaning chemicals and personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Assist with setup and cleanup for special events or emergency situations as needed.
