The Church Security Team Member is responsible for maintaining a secure environment while supporting a welcoming atmosphere for worship and fellowship. Team members will monitor church property, identify potential safety concerns, respond appropriately to emergencies, and assist with the implementation of church safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor entrances, exits, and designated areas during services and events.
- Provide a visible security presence while maintaining a friendly and professional demeanor.
- Greet members and visitors while remaining alert to safety and security concerns.
- Identify, assess, and respond to suspicious or disruptive behavior.
- Assist with parking lot monitoring and traffic flow as needed.
- Support emergency response procedures, including medical incidents, evacuations, and lockdown situations.
- Coordinate with local law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical personnel when necessary.
- Complete incident reports and communicate concerns to church leadership.

Legal & Compliance Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age (21 years of age or older for armed positions).
- Valid driver's license required.
- Must successfully pass a criminal background check.
- If serving in an armed capacity, must meet all Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) requirements, including registration and firearms qualifications.
- Ability to legally possess and carry a firearm if serving as armed security.
Training Requirements
Successful candidates must be willing to complete or maintain:
- Basic First Aid and CPR certification.
- De-escalation and conflict management training.
- Active threat awareness training.
- Church-specific safety and emergency response training.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to respond quickly during emergencies.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to remain alert and attentive throughout assigned shifts.
