What are the responsibilities and job description for the Survivor Advocate position at Faith House?
General Function: The Advocate provides direct services to victims of domestic violence. Direct service responsibilities include providing support, information, and advocacy to victims of domestic violence in a trauma-informed manner.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct domestic violence community outreach and education
- Assess client needs and eligibility for services.
- Provide support, advocacy, referral, and case management services to domestic violence survivors.
- Work with survivors to create, implement, monitor, and update individual safety plans.
- Assist survivors in emergencies to obtain shelter, financial assistance, and other basic needs
- Maintain accurate files, progress notes and data entry.
- Assist clients with obtaining legal assistance; interface with legal providers to guide victims through multiple systems
- Assist survivors with accessing other services (job training, counseling, housing, medical services, etc.)
- Maintain confidentiality of client information and shelter location.
- Be available for public speaking engagements when requested and be involved in program advocacy and networking for social change.
- Follow all policies as outlined in the Operations Manual for the Family Justice Center of Acadiana, the Faith House Policy & Procedure manual and Operations Manual, DCFS Quality Assurance Standards, Code of Ethics, and all state and federal regulations.
- Attend trainings and continuing education activities as assigned.
- Attend organization staff and team meetings as required and be prepared to give updates on activities.
- Be willing to fulfill any other duties assigned by immediate supervisor or Executive Director.
Qualifications:
- Four-year college or university degree preferred, though relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Experience working with trauma survivors strongly preferred.
- Experience in crisis intervention preferred.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.
