CLASSROOM ASSISTANT JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Purpose
The Classroom Assistant supports the Preschool Teacher and Preschool Team in providing a safe, nurturing, organized, and Christ-centered learning environment for preschool children. The Classroom Assistant assists with classroom activities, supervision, daily routines, and preparation of learning materials while supporting the mission, vision, and values of Faith Harvest Sprouts Preschool.

TEAM COORDINATOR SUPPORT ROLE
When the Preschool Director is unavailable due to meetings, trainings, events, or other responsibilities, the Team Coordinator will serve as the primary point of contact for day-to-day classroom communication, instructional support, and operational questions.
Teachers and Classroom Assistants are expected to communicate with and seek guidance from the Team Coordinator during these times to support consistency and smooth Preschool operations.
The Team Coordinator serves in a support and leadership capacity but does not have authority to make employment decisions, issue formal discipline, approve leave, or alter Preschool policies unless specifically authorized by the Preschool Director.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.• Ability to meet all required background check and child safety requirements.• Ability to work cooperatively with children, families, and staff.• Ability to follow Preschool policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with preschool-aged children or in an early childhood setting.• Early Childhood Education coursework, training, or related experience.• CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).• Experience supporting classroom instruction and child development.
Physical Requirements:
The employee must be able to actively engage with young children throughout the school day, including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, sitting on child-sized furniture, and assisting children with daily routines.
The employee must be able to safely lift (up to 40 pounds) and carry children or classroom materials as needed and maintain active supervision of students.

Primary Responsibilities
Classroom Support
Assist the Preschool Teacher in implementing daily lessons, activities, and classroom routines.
Prepare and organize classroom materials, learning centers, and instructional resources as directed by the Teacher.
Support children's participation in learning activities, small groups, and classroom experiences.
Assist with classroom setup, cleanup, and organization throughout the day.
Provide classroom coverage and support as assigned by the Teacher, Team Coordinator, or Director.
Child Supervision and Care
Supervise children at all times to ensure their safety and well-being.
Assist children with daily routines, including arrival, dismissal, handwashing, restroom routines, snack times, and classroom responsibilities.
Support positive behavior and encourage appropriate social interactions among children.
Help create a welcoming, caring, and engaging environment that promotes children's growth and development.
Promptly communicate concerns regarding student behavior, safety, health, or well-being to the Teacher or Director.
Classroom Environment
Assist in maintaining a clean, organized, safe, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment.
Help maintain classroom materials, supplies, learning centers, and shared preschool spaces.
Support classroom procedures and routines established by the Teacher and Preschool administration.
Health, Safety, and Compliance
Follow all preschool policies, procedures, child protection requirements, and licensing regulations.
Immediately report any suspected abuse, neglect, injury, illness, or safety concern to the Teacher and Preschool Director.
Assist with emergency procedures, drills, and safety protocols as directed.
Maintain appropriate supervision ratios and safety standards at all times.
Family Support
Support positive relationships with families through professional and respectful interactions.
Direct parent questions regarding student progress, developmental concerns, or classroom decisions to the Teacher or Director when appropriate.
Professional Responsibilities
Work cooperatively with teachers, staff members, and administration to create a positive learning environment for children.
Attend required staff meetings, professional development activities, training sessions, conferences, and preschool events as assigned.
Maintain confidentiality regarding students, families, staff, and preschool operations.
Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, punctuality, flexibility, and a positive attitude.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Teacher, Team Coordinator, or Director that support preschool operations.
Work Schedule
Classroom Assistants are hourly employees. Work schedules, assigned hours, classroom assignments, and duties are determined by the Preschool Director based on enrollment, staffing needs, classroom needs, and program operations.
Classroom Assistants are expected to report to work on time and remain at work for their entire scheduled shift unless otherwise approved by the Preschool Director.
Schedules, hours, classroom assignments, and responsibilities may be adjusted or modified by the Preschool as needed to meet operational and staffing needs. Classroom Assistants are expected to follow their assigned schedule and any approved schedule changes.
Classroom Assistants are expected to notify the Preschool Director as soon as possible when an absence, tardiness, or scheduling conflict occurs and must follow all attendance and absence procedures outlined in the Employee Handbook.
Additional hours may be assigned for staff meetings, professional development, training, special events, classroom preparation, or other preschool needs as determined by the Preschool Director.
Performance Evaluation
Classroom Assistants will participate in ongoing performance reviews conducted by the Preschool Director to support professional growth, accountability, and alignment with the expectations of Faith Harvest Sprouts Preschool.
Evaluations may be based on classroom observations and review of the following areas:
- Dependability, attendance, punctuality, and ability to follow assigned schedules • Active supervision and commitment to child safety • Ability to follow classroom routines, procedures, and staff direction • Positive interactions with children and ability to support children's social-emotional needs • Teamwork, communication, and cooperation with teachers and staff • Professional attitude, conduct, and adherence to Preschool policies • Ability to maintain classroom organization, cleanliness, and preparedness
The Preschool Director may provide feedback, discuss strengths and areas for growth, and establish goals or action steps as needed.
Christian Ministry Responsibilities
Support the mission, vision, and values of Faith Harvest Sprouts Preschool and Faith Harvest Church.
Model Christian character, integrity, and servant leadership.
Participate in prayer, Bible instruction, worship activities, and faith-based learning experiences.
Support children's spiritual development through Christ-centered interactions and encouragement.
Conduct oneself in a manner consistent with the Christian testimony and ministry mission of Faith Harvest Sprouts Preschool.
Standards of Conduct and Professional Example
Employees of Faith Harvest Sprouts Preschool serve as representatives of both the Preschool and Faith Harvest Church and are expected to model professionalism, good judgment, and conduct consistent with the mission and values of the ministry.
The use, possession, distribution, sale, or being under the influence of illegal drugs, controlled substances, marijuana, alcohol, or any intoxicating substance while on Preschool property, during work hours, while supervising children, or while representing the Preschool at any event is strictly prohibited.
Smoking, vaping, the use of tobacco products, nicotine products, electronic cigarettes, or similar devices is prohibited inside Preschool facilities, church facilities, vehicles used for Preschool purposes, playground areas, and in the presence of children during Preschool activities.
Employees are expected to report to work fit for duty and able to safely perform all assigned responsibilities.
Employees shall conduct themselves in a manner that promotes a positive example for children and families and supports the mission, reputation, and Christian testimony of Faith Harvest Sprouts Preschool.
Violations of these standards may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
Mandatory Reporting
All employees of Faith Harvest Sprouts Preschool are mandated reporters and are required to comply with Indiana child abuse and neglect reporting laws.
Employees must immediately report any suspected child abuse, neglect, exploitation, or safety concern directly to the appropriate authorities, including the Indiana Department of Child Services (DCS) Child Abuse and Neglect Hotline and/or local law enforcement when required.
Reporting a concern to the Preschool Director or another staff member does not fulfill an employee's legal obligation to make a report. Employees must ensure that the report is made directly to the appropriate authority.

The Indiana Child Abuse and Neglect Hotline is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Employees should also notify the Preschool Director of any report made according to Preschool policies and procedures, unless doing so would interfere with the safety or protection of a child. Employees must not delay reporting while waiting for approval, direction, or confirmation from another individual.
Key Role Statement
The Classroom Assistant serves as a support partner to the Teacher and Preschool Team, helping provide high-quality care, supervision, and learning experiences for preschool children. This position plays an important role in maintaining a safe, organized, and Christ-centered environment where children can learn, grow, and thrive.
Pay: $12.50 - $13.00 per hour
Expected hours: 18.0 – 22.0 per week
