Position Objectives Faith Harbor Music Minister

Overview: Faith Harbor United Methodist Church (FHUMC) is a growing church. Our Music Minister must model a commitment to Jesus Christ as well as being committed to the values & vision of FHUMC: “A Beacon of Hope in a broken world. Areas of Responsibility – Music Minister's responsibilities:

1. Prayer

  • Pray daily for the church and volunteers

2. Ministry of Music

  • Develop, organize, and assess a comprehensive music ministry that engages individuals of all ages within the church community. Collaborate with the Senior Pastor to plan Sunday worship services and special events, ensuring that all musical selections complement and enhance the worship experience.
  • Provide leadership for congregational music during regular and special worship services. Direct the Choir, including preparing and leading rehearsals, recruiting new members, and fostering their spiritual growth.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers to lead or support instrumental music programs. Encourage participation from congregants of all ages, inviting them to share their musical talents either individually or within organized groups.
  • Identify opportunities for church music groups to perform in the wider community, including outreach initiatives and events sponsored by local organizations.
  • Serve as a resource for members seeking music for weddings, funerals, memorial services, and special occasions.
  • Participate in general ministerial responsibilities as needed, such as providing congregational care and making hospital visits.
  • Plan and coordinate four concerts annually and implement a variety of engaging activities during the summer months.
  • Establish and maintain a database of musical talent within Faith Harbor and help organize a functional storage space for music-related materials.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings and perform additional duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor.

3. Administration

  • Prepare and recommend an annual music ministry budget to the Budget and Finance Committee.
  • Manage the music ministry budget as approved and submit required reports, estimates and requests according to relevant church policies and by specified deadlines.
  • Select and purchase all needed music, equipment and supplies according to the music budget and relevant church policies.
  • Supervise the use and maintenance of the music, equipment and supplies, such as the music library, musical instruments, choir robes, and hymnals.

4. Communication

  • Provide weekly input to the Secretary for inclusion in the weekly Messenger & Bulletin
  • Posting weekly updates on the Faith Harbor United Methodist Church (FHUMC) Facebook page to keep the congregation informed about music ministry activities.

5. Volunteers

  • Recruit new volunteers, working closely with them to discern their unique gifts and determine how they can best contribute to the ministry, and coordinating their involvement to ensure active participation.
  • Conduct regular follow-up to understand how each volunteer’s individual calling is being fulfilled through their work in the music ministry.
  • Follow-up with volunteers on how their unique calling is being lived out through music ministry

Skills & Qualifications – Music Minister

The ideal candidate will be a spiritually mature, servant-hearted leader who is passionate about worship, discipleship, and helping others use their musical gifts to glorify God. This position requires a blend of musical excellence, ministry leadership, volunteer development, and administrative capability. Based on the position description, the successful candidate should demonstrate the following qualifications:

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated Christian faith and a personal commitment to Jesus Christ.
  • Alignment with the mission, vision, and values of Faith Harbor United Methodist Church.
  • Experience leading worship music in a church setting.
  • Ability to direct and lead vocal and instrumental ensembles.
  • Strong knowledge of traditional and contemporary worship music.
  • Experience planning and coordinating worship services in collaboration with pastoral leadership.
  • Ability to recruit, train, motivate, and retain volunteers.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build relationships across all age groups.
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills, including budgeting, scheduling, and event planning.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a ministry team.
  • Proficiency with basic computer applications, social media, and digital communication tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining a positive and professional attitude.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Music, Worship Ministry, Church Music, or a related field.
  • Experience directing church choirs and coordinating instrumental music programs.
  • Experience planning concerts, seasonal productions, cantatas, or special worship events.
  • Familiarity with the theology, traditions, and practices of the United Methodist Church.
  • Experience developing intergenerational music ministries and community outreach programs.
  • Ability to arrange, adapt, or select music appropriate for a variety of worship settings and special events.

Physical & Schedule Requirements

  • Ability to attend and lead rehearsals, worship services, concerts, and special events.
  • Availability for evenings and weekends as required by ministry activities.
  • Ability to maintain a flexible schedule averaging approximately 20–25 hours per week.

Pay: From $34,600.00 per year
