What are the responsibilities and job description for the Volunteer: Outline MVP for App that Connects People with Volunteer Opportunities position at Faith Forward?
This is a volunteer opportunity provided by Taproot Foundation, a nonprofit creating social change through pro bono connections.
My goal for this Taproot Project is to create a clear plan and initial foundation for a simple mobile app that connects people to real, everyday needs within their local church and community. Faith Forward exists to help people both share needs and step in to meet them in a practical, accessible way. While we currently do this manually, we believe a mobile app could make this significantly easier and more scalable. The core vision for the app includes: -A simple way for individuals or churches to submit a need -A “needs board” where volunteers can browse and choose opportunities that fit their time and capacity -A way for volunteers to claim a need and follow through independently -Basic visibility into who is helping and when, creating clarity and trust for those receiving help We are looking for a skilled volunteer to help us: -Define a clear, realistic MVP -Map out key features and user flow -Recommend the best technology approach/platform -create prototype and fully functioning app This project is deeply meaningful to us, as it has the potential to remove barriers to serving and make it easier for people to love and support others in tangible ways.
Through working with our organization on this project, the volunteer will directly help remove barriers that often prevent people from meeting everyday needs within their communities. Faith Forward exists to make it easier for people to both share needs and step in to meet them in simple, practical ways. Right now, many of these needs go unmet—not because people don’t care, but because there isn’t a clear, accessible way to connect those who need help with those who are willing to give it. This project would help create a tool that: -Makes it easy for someone to ask for help without feeling overwhelmed or overlooked -Gives volunteers a simple way to find and act on real, tangible needs in their own time -Builds trust and clarity by showing who is stepping in to help and when Ultimately, this app has the potential to strengthen communities by turning good intentions into real action. The volunteer’s contribution will help lay the foundation for something that can grow and impact many people over time in meaningful, everyday ways.
My team and I have prepared for this project by clearly defining the problem we are trying to solve and the overall vision for how this app could support our mission. While we are still early in the development process, we have identified the core functionality we hope to include and are intentionally seeking guidance to shape it well from the beginning. We are approaching this project with a desire to start simple and build wisely. We understand the importance of defining a realistic MVP before expanding features, and we are open and eager to follow expert guidance in shaping that direction. To support our volunteer partner, we will: -Be responsive and communicative, respecting their time and availability -Come prepared with clear feedback and timely decision-making -Provide any context, examples, or clarification needed to communicate our vision -Remain flexible and collaborative, trusting their expertise in technical decisions We are fully committed to implementing what is developed through this project. This app is not just an idea—it is something we plan to actively use and grow as part of our organization. Our goal is to build a strong, sustainable foundation that we can continue developing over time.
