Job Overview
We are seeking an energetic and dedicated Childcare Classroom Break Coverage and Closing Assistant to support our early childhood education team. In this vital role, you will ensure a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for children during classroom breaks and at the end of the day. Your enthusiasm and commitment will help create a positive experience for children, staff, and families alike. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to early childhood development while gaining valuable classroom experience. Hours are 3pm-6pm, Monday through Friday.
Duties
- Provide attentive supervision and care for children during scheduled classroom breaks, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times
- Assist with classroom closing routines, including tidying up activities, organizing materials, and preparing the space for the next day
- Support teachers in implementing age-appropriate activities that promote learning, social skills, and emotional development
- Engage children in play, conversation, and educational activities that foster curiosity and growth
- Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming environment by following health and safety protocols
- Communicate effectively with staff regarding children's needs, behaviors, or any concerns that arise during coverage periods
- Ensure adherence to all childcare policies, including emergency procedures and behavior management strategies
Skills
- Prior experience working with children in preschool, daycare, or babysitting settings is highly desirable
- Knowledge of childhood development principles and best practices in early childhood education
- Ability to manage classroom behavior with patience and positive reinforcement techniques
- First aid certification or willingness to obtain certification upon hire to ensure child safety in emergencies
- Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members and families
- Demonstrated reliability, flexibility, and enthusiasm for working with young children
