Position Summary

Fairwinds Technologies is seeking an experienced DMS Engineer to support a major AWACS airborne communications modernization program. This role is responsible for obsolescence management, lifecycle sustainment planning, supply chain risk mitigation, and ensuring long-term material availability for mission-critical avionics and ground systems.

The successful candidate will support the integration and sustainment of advanced communications technologies, including ARC-210 Gen 6 radios, HF radio systems, cryptographic devices, and mission computing interfaces. Working closely with engineering, logistics, cybersecurity, suppliers, OEMs, and government stakeholders, this individual will develop and implement strategies to mitigate component obsolescence and maintain fleet readiness throughout the program lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the program DMSMS strategy for avionics, communications, and ground support systems.
  • Monitor hardware, electronic components, software dependencies, and supplier notifications for obsolescence risks.
  • Identify diminishing manufacturing sources and life-cycle supply challenges affecting mission-critical systems.
  • Develop proactive mitigation plans including alternate sourcing, redesign recommendations, bridge buys, lifetime buys, and technology refresh strategies.
  • Prepare and deliver DMSMS Life Cycle Management reports and recommendations.
  • Present DMSMS status, risks, replacement recommendations, and mitigation plans during Program Management Reviews (PMRs) and technical reviews.
  • Support modernization and sustainment of military airborne communication systems.
  • Assess part availability impacts on aircraft modification schedules, testing events, spares programs, and long-term sustainment plans.
  • Develop and maintain Supply Chain Risk Management (SCRM) processes.
  • Ensure traceability to OEMs, OCMs, and authorized distributors.
  • Assess supplier health, manufacturing viability, and potential supply chain disruptions.
  • Coordinate supplier qualification activities and alternate source identification.
  • Monitor long-lead material availability and procurement risks.
  • Support counterfeit parts prevention initiatives and material traceability programs.
  • Support provisioned spares planning and lifecycle sustainment analyses.
  • Support Level of Repair Analysis (LORA) and provisioning activities.
  • Coordinate with configuration management teams to analyze engineering changes that affect sustainment and supply chain viability.
  • Support Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) associated with obsolescence mitigation.
  • Maintain DMSMS databases, risk registers, and lifecycle tracking tools.
  • Ensure requirements traceability and documentation compliance throughout the program lifecycle.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management or a related technical discipline.
  • DAU Life Cycle Logistics or Engineering & Technical Management Certification, or equivalent desired.

Experience

  • 8 years of DMSMS, sustainment engineering, lifecycle management, logistics engineering, or avionics support experience.
  • Experience supporting military or aerospace platforms.
  • Experience developing obsolescence mitigation strategies for electronic hardware and avionics systems.
  • Understanding of DMSMS management processes, supply chain risk management, configuration management, reliability and maintainability principles, and lifecycle sustainment planning.
  • Experience working with OEMs and defense suppliers.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, bills of material, and technical data packages.
  • Strong analytical, presentation, and technical writing skills.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, problem-solving, and customer relationship management skills.
  • Experience with AWACS, ISR, C2, airborne communications, or large aircraft mission systems.
