TITLE: Classroom Special Education Aide
(Part-Time 5 hours per day)
LOCATION: Fairview School District *
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working with students with special needs. May include but not limited to behavioral, emotional, learning, social, and life skill needs.
- Proficient in use of educational technology and assistive technology.
- Knowledge of CPR and HWC or willing to train.
- Able to work cooperatively with other adults in an educational setting.
- Highly qualified status as a paraeducator
REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Special Education/Building Principal
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Class ‘C’
$18.09 per hour
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Support Services Personnel.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide support across all environments for students with special needs.
- Assist with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning in both the special education and general education classrooms.
- Assist the teacher in implementing special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on an understanding of individual student needs, interests, abilities, and IEP goals and objectives.
- Assist in data collection for progress monitoring in coordination with the special education teacher.
- Assist students in use of assistive technology and other instructional information.
- Operate and care for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
- Track and complete access billing forms, typical daily schedule, etc. where appropriate.
- Assist with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
- Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers.
- Uses HWC techniques when restraint is necessary or needed. Complete the yearly HWC training.
- Responsible for providing necessary assistance with students’ transportation needs.
- Communicates clearly and effectively with the special education staff and parents if needed.
- Participate in in-service training programs, as assigned; meeting the 20 hours per year requirement to maintain highly qualified status.
- Adheres to the daily student/class schedule as developed by special education staff.
