IV Insertion Specialist
Position: IV Insertion Specialist / Phlebotomy & Vascular Access Specialist
Setting: Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center
Employment: Full-Time / Part-Time / Per Diem
RN License: Not required for this position, provided the candidate is legally qualified and permitted to perform the assigned duties under applicable New York State requirements and facility policy.
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced IV Insertion Specialist to provide vascular access and blood-draw services for residents in a skilled nursing and rehabilitation setting.
The ideal candidate must be highly skilled and confident in peripheral IV insertion and venipuncture/blood collection, including working with elderly residents and individuals who may have difficult vascular access.
This is a hands-on clinical position. We are specifically seeking someone with demonstrated experience successfully establishing peripheral IV access and drawing blood.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform peripheral IV insertions as permitted by applicable law, credentials, scope of practice, and facility policy.
- Perform venipuncture and blood draws for ordered laboratory testing.
- Identify appropriate veins and IV insertion sites.
- Demonstrate proficiency with difficult IV access and challenging blood draws.
- Remove peripheral IVs when appropriate and permitted.
- Monitor IV insertion sites for signs of infiltration, phlebitis, infection, leakage, or other complications and immediately report concerns to nursing staff.
- Properly label, handle, and prepare blood specimens for laboratory pickup or processing.
- Follow infection-control, hand-hygiene, PPE, and sterile/aseptic technique requirements.
- Properly dispose of needles, sharps, blood collection supplies, and other biohazardous materials.
- Maintain accurate documentation of procedures performed.
- Communicate effectively with nurses, physicians/providers, laboratory personnel, residents, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
- Provide calm, compassionate care to elderly, medically complex, anxious, or difficult-to-access residents.
Salary : $22 - $40
