The Wound, Ostomy, and Continence (WOC) RN Treatment Specialist operates within the Mission, Core Values, and Strategic Plans of Fairview Hospitals. The WOC RN Treatment Specialist provides consultation, education, leadership, staff supervision, and direct care for patients with needs in the areas of wounds, ostomies, fistulas, drains, and incontinence problems. WOC RN Treatment Specialist collaborates with physicians, nursing staff, and other health care disciplines to determine best treatment protocols and facilitate quality outcomes for ostomy and wound care patients. The WOC RN Treatment Specialist incorporates current research and best practice guidelines for the care of ostomy and wound patients. The WOC RN Treatment Specialist is available for consultation during off hours in emergencies.

Responsibilities Job Description
Under the direction of the WOC RN (for Certifications not held):
- Provides consultation and direct patient care for new ostomy patients, including pre-operative site marking, education, and emotional support
- Manages complex ostomy and fistula care.
- Cares for simple and complex wounds and skin care injuries.
- Provides leadership in pressure injury prevention, surveillance, and treatment.
- Participates in evaluation of innovative ostomy and wound care products and devices and influence product choices through collaboration with other departments/sites/teams.
- Participates in development of WOC related policy, procedure, and guidelines.
- Provides education to patients, family, and other healthcare professionals individually and in-group settings related to ostomy, wound and skin care.
- Actively participate within an interdisciplinary team, developing wound, ostomy and continence plans of care, and effectively advocating patient-centered care.
- Demonstrates effective communication skills and engages the bedside staff during consultation.

Qualifications
Required
Education
- Bachelor’s degree
- Enrolled in an accredited WOC Nursing program
License/Certification/Registration
- Current MN RN License
- BLS for Health Care Providers
Preferred
Experience
- 1 plus year WOC clinical experience.
License/Certification/Registration
- Certified Wound/Ostomy Nurse (CWON)
Additional Requirements (must be obtained or completed within a period of time):
- Certified Wound, Ostomy, Continence Nurse (CWOCN)
