The VP, System Operations Center has overall accountability for the strategic deployment of all staffing and scheduling initiatives within nursing and nursing support teams. Serves as the liaison between the executive leadership team and key stakeholders and teams, driving the organization's staffing and scheduling initiatives. This position requires onsite presence in the System Operations Center (SOC) in St Paul with routine travel to the Fairview acute hospitals for operations meetings and rounding.
The Fairview System Operations Center (SOC) serves as the central hub for healthcare operations, enhancing visibility while reducing burdens on care teams through information and decision support. The Staffing & Scheduling team provides centralized, real-time visibility into system staffing needs and coordinates timely, accurate scheduling for nursing resources. We develop schedules using an organized process within an established budget, deliver excellent customer service, produce quality schedules, and meet daily staffing requirements. Additionally, we partner with leaders, union representatives, and other departments to implement and support customer service and process improvements.
Responsibilities
- Works closely with the Executive and Operations leadership teams and key stakeholders to set priorities, develop and execute strategies, establish short- and long-term staffing improvement, and continuously monitor key performance indicators to measure the effectiveness of the system operations center- staffing and scheduling department.
- Strategically partners with stakeholders in patient transfer to engineer staffing models that are predictive and dynamic to meet the patient flow demands.

- Promotes positive labor relations, stakeholder and employee engagement and assures contractual requirements are met in all scheduling functions.
- Collaborates on the development of workforce realignment plan to meet core and contingency hiring targets approved by the Executive and Operations Leadership Team
- Leads resource management and scheduling/staffing optimization and Acute services in partnership with key stakeholders.
- Prepares / assists in the staffing, schedule, financial forecast and monitors forecast for monthly variances.
- Drives care efficiency, nursing cost effectiveness, efficient use of resources and hospital utilization metrics.
- Guides implementation of best practice staffing and scheduling to achieve operational excellence
- Assess and evaluates the tools and technology, identifying systems, dashboards, and leveraging predictive analytics.
Required Qualifications
- M.A./M.S. in business, healthcare related field, or 10 plus years of experience in progressive leadership to include health system staffing and scheduling
- 5 years of progressive leadership to include experience leading health system staffing and scheduling.
- Advanced understanding of scheduling system workflows
- Process Improvement Experience
- Broad base knowledge of evidence-based staffing models and infrastructure supporting front line involvement.
- Strong ability to manage large scope initiatives which includes gap analysis and assessment, planning, implementing and evaluation
- Experience leading in a highly matrixed complex healthcare environment
- Experience with staffing and payroll software (ie. UKG, MyTime)

The posted pay range is for a 40-hour workweek (1.0 FTE). The actual rate of pay offered within this range may depend on several factors, such as FTE, skills, knowledge, relevant education, experience, and market conditions.
